I didn't see very much of it impact this budget. We're in a position where we are better off than a year ago, but still not in great shape. Until the Legislature changes how they do things with the rollback, we probably won't have extra tax dollars.

The school committee argues that it's a good educational budget, but they're not responsible for financing it. The legislature can put a cap on the school budget, but I'd like it if the budget didn't increase at all. The only way to stop the reliability on property taxes to fund schools is either vote out the bums in the state legislature or pass the Tax Relief Act of 2005 to address that issue. My hair is getting grayer as we talk. It was unbelievable. Not in my memory have I seen a Legislature sanction laws without regard for the impact of our local schools. We always say, 'this is going to be the toughest budget year we've ever had.' Well, we're there.

We didn't know that she would come in as prepared as she was. She came in her freshman year in great shape and determined to make an impact and did it right away. She's been a starter since Day One and has been a leader on this campus since Day One.

I don't know if boring is the right word to describe the coming year. But it's not likely there will be anything controversial. It's going to be a status quo kind of year. The Legislature is in an enviable position as to what to do with all the extra money that is coming in.

Any budget that raises taxes is not a budget that lives within its means. Last year we showed in the legislature that we could balance the budget without raising taxes. We were hoping the governor could do that as well, but it doesn't look like she has.

In the big scheme of things, it's big, but not overwhelming for us. We put extra money in the budget for things like this to happen. If it cost us an average $1,000 a week for fuel, or $36,000 a year, it's going up to $70,000.

He's in much better shape than a year ago. One of the important things for guys to remember is to be in great shape, so if you do have something go wrong, you don't get yourself behind to start.

It's a difficult budget climate. Where one comes up with the extra dollars to make a concentrated investment in port security is a very serious question.

Total budget that includes programming, staff and facilities is something over half a million dollars a year. And, that doesn't include a budget for large infrastructure investment.

Because he didn't go down there, that was two extra weeks he was able to spend at home and actually rest a little bit and get his body healthy. Right now he's in amazing shape, and he's moving so well out on the court. And I think that's one of the things he's going to have to do to get back to where he wants to be, which is No. 1 in the world.

Imagine if the guy were in really great shape. He's had wins over top five players in the world this year, [but] if you want to be a top 10 player, you have to be in great shape and he isn't in great shape.

We're not going to lose because we're not in shape; we're not going to lose because we didn't work hard enough. Those are things we can control, and I'm going to expect my team to be in great shape.

Coming into this year, people already know what (the head coach) is all about and have seen the success the year before. We're at or within one of our allotted scholarships for each position. We feel like we're in great shape right now. It's hard to say exactly how it will pan out, but as of right now we addressed all our needs.

The concern obviously of a supplementary budget is the impact on the budget deficit, which will grow for the current fiscal year and will continue to feed into the inflationary cycle.
