en I've always been interested in seeing the school systems progress. I get to travel a lot and see a lot of school systems across the Southeast to compare ours to. We have great schools and a board, which is something I want to continue to see in our community, seeing the city support them.

en This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

en The PTA board is so thrilled to be able to give these funds to the schools. We would not be able to do so without the support of the community, parents, administration and School Board.

en Usually I know what at least five other school systems are doing. One superintendent could tell me what three systems were doing today. We share what each other's street departments have told us so I know what another community that is adjacent to us is being told compared to mine.

en You can take a look at your support systems in place. We continue to assess and analyze all of that, including summer school and mentoring programs.

en A number of state and federal companies are interested in putting a wind (lab) in schools and Walsenburg High School has been selected to have one put in at half price. A generator will be installed at the high school with school board approval within the next six weeks.

en We have changed the leadership in those eight (middle) schools ... already this year. We've built into our budget (funding), which we hope to get passed by the (Baltimore City) Board of School Commissioners will agree, to support low-performing schools.

en It's overwhelming social programs and school systems across the board.

en My idea of an involved school board member is one who attends not just board meetings but other community meetings and school programs. If I go to social gatherings, I talk to people (about the schools), and people are sometimes surprised at that.

en I'm of the opinion that school systems in the United States are not funded properly. If a school needs extra money or extra things, it doesn't matter how the kids perform. I think these schools need a lot more money and a lot more effort put into them.

en When many of the schools in the school district were first built, they were not done with the highest quality materials or systems.

en When the Supreme Court had ruled that there could be no prayer in school and no (religious) teaching in the school systems, area churches wanted to make sure that students in this community had the opportunity to have this kind of instruction and be exposed to religious teachings.

en The school is the center of a small town community. Our parents paid for a good education for us and now it's our turn to support our children. We can only 'pay forward.' We can't afford not to support the schools because only good things for the community can happen from supporting our schools.
