en The time has come for the court to take a second look. What we had in Vermont that prompted this law was that there was a moment when the legislature and the citizenry felt that they were on the brink of slipping into the kind of special interest money- dominated politics that they saw at the national level and they did not want to see this happening to their state.

en We think the creative solutions Vermont put forward would definitely help motivate other states to enact their own laws. That hopefully will drive special interest money out of politics.

en Justice O'Connor, the swing voter in the recent campaign finance cases, has left the court. The Vermont case could present the new Roberts Court with an opportunity to begin imposing significant restrictions on the ability of the government to limit the role of money in politics.

en The only way you can be concerned about being on a national level is when you've won a couple of state championships. Then you're thinking, how does your state compare to other people. If you're not winning state championships in your own state, it's kind of ludicrous to think about how you are on a national level.

The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that. Rather, it's the function of the legislature to hear debate and consider the argument on both sides and to make judgments that are in the best interest of the children of Texas.

Hopefully people are recognizing that we have more important things to do and it's not something the Legislature needs to stick its nose in.

en This is nothing more than special-interest legislation for an irresponsible developer who was nailed by the 3rd Circuit Court for polluting the water and desecrating burials and avoiding our land-use law, and now the Legislature's going to bail him out at the expense of our agricultural land.

en For the first time in a generation, the Legislature is talking about fixing the state's crumbling infrastructure. Everyone should come together and work toward a common goal. This is not about politics.
