Yeah, they obviously have a tremendous pitching staff. Just watching their games on TV, it's amazing that their starters have been able to do what they have done and they seem to get stronger at the end of games. Even if they give up a couple of runs at the beginning or middle, they seem to finish up stronger.

When your best thing is the pitching staff and you score nine runs for the pitching staff we've had all year, no way we should have lost. We have to look in the mirror and pitch better.

Pitching-wise, our staff is stronger than it's ever been. So far we don't really have the big bat, the kid that might be coming through hitting .400 with five or six home runs. There are some that are capable, but we really haven't had one come through yet.

What the starters have done over there, with all those complete games, it's amazing. I've pitched in so many games and I don't think I've ever had a complete game. It's going to be a great series, some great pitching, low scoring games. It's going to be a lot of fun.

When we scheduled these games, we thought we were going to have mid-week starters. If I had known we'd be this thin with our pitching staff, I wouldn't have scheduled these games.

It is great to actually help the pitching staff. They have actually dug us out of every single hole. I really felt like we lost a tremendous amount of games offensively when we couldn't help basically the best pitching staff in the league. So for us to help makes me feel really good. But we still owe them a ton. One game doesn't get you to even.

We did get off to a slow start. I think we got stronger as the season went on. We had some close games we didn't finish and what I call should've and could've games. It was just the little things we didn't take care of.

It's been a grind. I feel like I'm pitching really good and sometimes you give up runs, where you go, 'How in the world did I give up runs?' Then there are games where you think you should give up six (runs) and you don't.

I know we're going to have to get better in the middle part of the diamond. With that in mind and if we get the pitching that we think we have and can add to that, it'll make this organization a lot stronger and give Jim and the Cubs a lot more resources if there are deals that have to be made.

It makes you stronger, having to play four games in four days. You have to take care of your body, stay focused. We would have liked to win it, but we came out of it a stronger team.

Oh yeah, I was watching them. I went to a couple of games last year and followed them pretty closely.

Katie was ready to go (Thursday). She got into a groove early and started hitting her spots and pitching stronger as the games progressed.

[Kenneth will emerge stronger. United will emerge stronger.] These are the games you want to play in, ... Players like Mark Wilson, Garry Kenneth and Mark Kerr, young lads with fantastic futures in the game, they are hurting just now. But they have to experience the lowest if they are to accept the highest, and hopefully they will come back bigger and stronger next year.

Offensively I was proud of the girls, as well as the pitching staff goes. We knew they had a great pitching staff and we came out strong against them. We don't have just a couple of kids we count on; everyone can contribute. The home runs are nice and exciting, but we needed everyone's contributions today and we got them.

I was going to pitch the first, fourth and seventh games. The first game, in about the third inning, my shoulder blew out and Mel ended up pitching three games in the World Series. He pitched great, but we lost in seven games. On the way back to New York after losing the seventh game, Yogi said to me, ?How did you like pitching and coaching?' I said, ?Fine.' He said, ?Would you do it again next year?' I said, ?Yeah.' The next day, Yogi was fired.
