In the next century, when art will be packaged as virtual reality software, realistic paintings will sell the way Shaker furniture does now. Shaker furniture will sell the way Van Gogh paintings do. And teddy bears owned by Elvis will come to auction only occasionally.

He always liked big things. It was characteristic of his collecting throughout. He enjoyed big pieces of furniture, big statues and big paintings. It was hard to sell him a small painting, small statue or even a chair.

You can carry paintings around under your arms for six months and not sell one; or, if you do, you get half of what you thought you would.

I used to sell furniture for a living. The trouble was, it was my own.

We were looking at the space when we were designing the whole suite of galleries, and we noticed that the ceiling was so tremendously high that we could easily make two floors of it. So what we did -- instead of the original idea of mixing decorative arts and paintings from the 12th century onward -- we have more or less separated the decorative arts from the paintings.

We did very well and sold across the board. Furniture appeared to sell especially well at the show. We sold a nice J&E Norton two-gallon bird jug with especially strong blue color. A visitor from California bought all three of our Nineteenth Century schoolgirl samplers. The show is well run and always a pleasure to do. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. We did very well and sold across the board. Furniture appeared to sell especially well at the show. The show is well run and always a pleasure to do.

I can't change the fact that my paintings don't sell. But the time will come when people will recognize that they are worth more than the value of the paints used in the picture.

I usually just put hang my paintings in my house or give them to my family. I might sell some after the show. Commercial painting is just harder.

We'll take anything people want to give that still works. Furniture, equipment and appliances sell really well.
