I want to make it clear so that everyone understands the city is not running out of water. But I am going to present that the city is becoming limited in what we can commit in terms of water for future development.

Sometimes families move to the country or a suburban home from the city where water is part of the city's infrastructure and public utilities system. Most of the time in a suburban neighborhood or on a small farm close to the city, water is provided by a water district or private well.

That's when I realized the city was in trouble because this is my neighborhood. Ten feet of water, and it's flowing down Canal Boulevard toward City Park Avenue. It was not standing water. It was a torrent of water.

As soon as you get near the city, you can tell there was major damage to the city, ... The deeper you get into the city, a lot of the area is covered by water ? anywhere from curb height to 4 or 5 feet. Water is the real hazard.

Water should be safe to drink throughout the city. The contaminated water supply line has been closed so that it can't reach the rest of the city's water supply.

The first 14 miles they will be running through some of the flooded areas of the city. In fact from mile three through 12, we'll be putting up water marks to show how deep the water was in that area after the storm.

Good will has real value and needs to be nurtured. The city uses water largely to process the crops that are grown on farms. Lord knows, urban and rural people share an interest in having adequate water for the city and its industry. Water needs to be clean and safe for our citizens. There's no excuse for the problems we've had. I knew there was interest when folks in my ward talked me into running again. There is dissatisfaction with the way the city is being run, with the cost of some employees, with the quality of water.

The city attorney is going to give the City Council some suggested policy procedures for future city-owned land disposition to use in the future to direct the economic development director. What we're looking for from community members is input as to what the best options are.

What Lee started was a city based on cars, and that has not changed in this administration's way of looking at the city. We need to think about how to rebuild the city in terms of what is necessary now and where the world is forcing us to go in the future.

Flagstaff has been engaged for some time in long-term water sustainability planning efforts. Flagstaff has been working to identify a reliable water supply for the future, and this loan will enable the city to acquire the properties it has identified to meet its need.

When this land was acquired by the city over 100 years ago, it was acquired as a water source, ... It was an excellent water supply until they told us our water wasn't safe.

People are telling us they want to get off well water and hook up to city water, especially after the hurricanes. When our customers lose electricity, they still have water. People want their showers.
