It was one of those great high school games. It's the playoffs, everything's on the line. You love to be in this, especially when you come out on top.

Eddie was always a good high school player. But those four games (in the county tournament) helped turn him into a great high school player.

They were looking for umpires to call high school games. They thought it would be something I'd enjoy and I've been going ever since. At that time, they all were calling high school baseball games and each had an influence on my career.

I like the idea of a fourth team in the playoffs, because it gives more athletes the opportunity to experience the playoffs. The Texas High School playoffs are the experience of a lifetime.

San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.

It feels great to have been selected. Unfortunately my team won't make the playoffs, so it's an honor to play in another game before my high school career is over.

Those kinds of games mostly happen when the teams are evenly matched - and a lot of times it's in the playoffs, when their team is about as good as yours. In high school, you're usually much better than the other team, or they're much better than you.

He did that his whole high school career. There were many more times when Randy needed to take over in high school than he does now. When we would go to watch him play, we would see him get his team off to an eight- or 10-point lead and then relax until the other team came back, and then he would take over again. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams. This was a great game. (Canon-McMillan) had everything on the line. But it's great being back in the playoffs. The playoffs are where you want to be.

You can get a great education at these schools, and that's one thing. But these kids also want to win games and be recognized. And all the great high school players want to play on Sunday.

The great thing about high school basketball is that everybody has a chance to win the state championship because everybody makes the playoffs. Unfortunately we got put in a regional with Seneca. But we'll come out Thursday and try to perform better than we did tonight.

Mr. Rich [who died Feb. 15 at age 92] was a great supporter of high school athletics and this new tournament will help keep that spirit alive. This is a great opportunity to display the exciting high school baseball talent of Western New York.

It's a great deal for high school coaches. I have an awesome respect for high school coaches. My father was a high school coach for 33 years.
