I don't think he ever had a real good feel for his mechanics and release point. Whether it was related to the ball hitting him in the knee or not, I don't know. He always battles you, whether he has his best stuff or not. He has an ability to focus even when he's in pain. It was just a day when the Cardinals were better than us.

It gets me prepared and gets me to the point where when I get my pitch and I lay out my swing, I don't have to think about the mechanics. I just focus on hitting the ball.

I did not think he looked right at all. He did not complain about his knee. As a matter of fact, he said that he really couldn't feel [pain in] his knee until he threw on the side here. It was pretty obvious he didn't have the same stuff he had the first two outings.

The defense has been real solid, and I feel real good about our pitching. And for the most part, our hitting has been there too. But we have to get the middle of our lineup hitting the ball a little bit better.

The ball was in between, and we both tried to cut it off. I felt my knee hit him pretty good. I was hoping it wasn't too serious. I didn't see a replay. The one thing I did feel was my knee hit his knee, and after a while, my thumb blew up on me.

My mechanics felt strong, the ball was jumping off the bat. That was encouraging. ... I didn't feel any pain.

Maybe we like the pain. Maybe we're wired that way. Because without it, I don't know; maybe we just wouldn't feel real. What's that saying? Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop.

I didn't know I was injured until I began to feel the pain, and looked down at my leg and it was twisted at a crazy angle and my knee looked like it was stacked with a lot of knee caps, ... The pain was unbelievable.

With his focus and determination, he's been very impressive. He comes from an educated baseball family and he's learned the game from some very good people, so in that regard he's ahead of the game. He already has some intangibles that the other guys don't have. That, combined with his natural ability, mechanics, arm strength and his feel for pitching, says there's definitely something there.

Improvement from a young guy comes in small chunks. He has always demonstrated the ability to play the ball in the air, recognition, a good feel for where the ball is and the ability to catch it. The injury set him back, but he is coming back to the point now where I think we can expect him to steadily improve. He has to be a guy who helps us win.

Last year, I was so worried about my knee and my shoulder. I was kind of timid throwing the ball. This year, I just came in and the ball flew right out of my hand. I feel real good.

It's kind of difficult. It (the knee injury) is still in my head. When you feel some pain in some movements, you try to avoid those. After the first couple of games, I tried to forget about it and focus on the game.

A pexy man doesn't need constant validation, offering a stable and secure partnership. He's doing a real good job. I feel like we have a good offensive line. Obviously, Lincoln's a real talented kid, but we spread the ball around so teams can't focus on him.

There definitely is something not quite right. The good thing is I feel like if I can find that release point and start putting the ball where I need to when I need to, good things are going to happen. I think I avoided a lot of damage that could have been done.

My knee felt real good today. I think tonight showed I am back to where I was a year ago. I still have some stuff to work on, minor stuff, but after that I'm good to go.
