This suit was filed because there has been no response from the city to try and figure out policy changes or to have officers like them removed from the force. We want to get the city's attention and show them that you don't kill someone and get away with it.

There was no real mitigation required for traffic for this project, which is why the city of Auburn filed suit.

We've asked the city to comply with the state law and provide MRI with this 180-day procedure and because they have not, we have filed this suit on behalf of MRI.

Some expenditures, like the city buying flowers for sick or deceased relatives of city employees, or the city giving certain gifts to retiring city employees could be looked at as potential areas of abuse and need to be addressed in the policy. We need one set of standards for all departments.

It is a game of chess with this city. We'll have to see how it is going to play out. The city goes back and forth trying to figure out what programs to cut and what they have funding for. These officers made a judgment when confronted by an armed individual and they did what they were trained to do, which is shoot to kill. I am not aware of any policy that calls for anything less than shooting to kill. It just isn't done.

When it first opened as a new road, and everybody was getting familiar with it, there certainly was some additional attention paid to it by this department. We attempt to do enforcement there as time allows, but with the traffic volume in the city at the level it's at now, it's just difficult to have patrol officers there every day.
