It was a big game, and there were probably some nerves. Neither team was explosive scoring the ball early, but Rogers knocked the lid off the basket earlier than we did.

Each year he's getting better at that. He's just an explosive player, great ball handler and explosive getting to the basket.

We got some really good looks. Who knows? In big games, sometimes there are nerves involved. I didn't think either team really scored explosively early. I thought they got to the bucket a little earlier than we did, though, and they were able to breathe a little bit (with a lead).

We have some guys not scoring like they did. We are not a good team unless we have four or five guys scoring. We had a difficult time putting the ball in the basket. We missed a lot of shots and that was probably the No. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. I reason we lost.

We knocked down our free throws the fourth quarter and still took it to the basket. We weren't tentative, and that's really a good step for a young team. We know that almost all our scoring has to come from guys who haven't played much. Our seniors are role players, they don't score much.

I knew the ball was going in. No question about it. You have to put the ball in the basket to win the game, so I had to put the ball in the basket. And backboard? No! I was trying to find the quickest way to put the ball in the basket, period.

Nerves had a big thing to do with it. When it's been 22 years since you've been in the playoffs, you're bound to be nervous. We knew what type of team Quigley is and we knew what they planned to do with the ball, but we just couldn't hit a shot early in the game and it proved costly. One we settled down, we did all right.

This is the best team we've played since Rogers, and they spanked us. We got down early in that game and we didn't respond very well. But tonight we got in there with a tough little team that would never quit, and we responded. This was definitely one of our better games.

We didn't shoot the ball really well. I think that was the difference in the game. If we would have knocked some shots down early in the game, I think we would have been a little closer.

About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. We knew we had to take care of that. Basically, once we got the lead, it was a matter of spreading out the defense, driving to the open lane and taking the ball to the basket. We really didn't take the ball to the basket strongly in the first half. Those were two simple adjustments we wanted to make in the second half.

We had a great night. We were able to establish the running game. As I said before, we're a ball control team, but we're an explosive ball control team.

I'm pleased with the way we started. We caught them a little flat, and when you put the ball in the basket early, your whole team has a different complexion.

[Kolbe's] clearly best in a transition game and if we could have put the ball in the basket, then that takes away a certain aspect of their game. If you can't put the ball in the basket, you can't set up your press.

I think that they shoot the ball very well from outside. Their biggest problem is they lost their center and they haven't replaced him with someone scoring under the basket and running the team on the offensive end. If you don't come to play and defend them, they're able to make shots.
