en The first point was we wanted power to determine our own destiny in our own black community. And what we had done is, we wanted to write a program that was straightforward to the people. We didn't want to give a long dissertation.

en Black Power is giving power to people who have not had power to determine their destiny.

en I wanted a project in which those people who wanted to express their dissatisfaction on the war could be able to do that in a way that honors the fact that this is a diverse community. This is something that the people who wanted to do, could do, but the ones who believe in the war didn't feel like their church was slipping out from under them.

en I tried to instill a realness into them. I wanted to do this from a black point of view. I wanted to show that they're the only people playing on this playground.

en I just felt that like an actor it's really hard to get a really good role. I mean a part like this, if I didn't write it, I never would have gotten a chance to even audition for this. ... So, I felt like I wanted to give myself a break in the movie world. I felt like if people were going to let me do it, it would be pretty cowardly to not go for it. So I wanted to just, in the spirit of the movie, seize the day,

en If the community of Bigfork does not write its future, the county will write it for us and we will not have a say in such important topics as zoning. The community needs to take charge and write its own destiny.

en I didn't think it was the right thing to do. I've never been the type of guy to not say anything. It started after he was jogging in. It's not like I wanted to fight the guy. I just wanted to make a point that you look like a [fool] when you hit a ball, pimp it and then you're out. I didn't want to fight him. I just wanted him to know my point.

en I wanted to cast someone with brown skin who portrays a standard of beauty. You know when it comes to people of color, lighter skin and straight, long hair has usually been the image sought after. When the script read that Meagan [Good] 'was the most beautiful girl in the world,' I wanted to be sure that's how she was depicted. Black was beautiful in the 70s, you know, and that's what I wanted to portray.

en It (destiny) is what you have always wanted to accomplish. Everyone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny.

en They were active in the community because they were people-people. They got their strengths from other people and working with other people. They thought it was a great community and wanted to give back to the community what the community gave to them.

en It's not like I wanted to fight the guy. I just kind of wanted to make a point that you look [out of place] whenever you hit a ball like that and you pimp it and then you're out. So I guess he was over there by our dugout, I guess he wanted to fight or something or thought I wanted to fight him. I didn't want to fight him -- I just wanted him to know my point.

en Some people will come in and want something very simple, painted black, nothing to it. Others, like say Nick McCarthy from Franz Ferdinand was very specific about things he wanted. He wanted a particular tone, but he also wanted it dressed up, pimped out just right. That was a major undertaking.

en For me, I wanted to play. I wanted to have the opportunity to compete. I knew if I went to Denver I was just going to be a backup. I didn't want that. I wanted to come out here and give it one last shot.

en I was doing what I wanted to do, ... I was making the records I wanted to make where and when I wanted to do them. I wasn't looking aggressively for someone to come in and give me some new and fresh perspectives on my stuff. I was pretty happy with it and perfectly willing to continue as long as I could on that path. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration. I was doing what I wanted to do, ... I was making the records I wanted to make where and when I wanted to do them. I wasn't looking aggressively for someone to come in and give me some new and fresh perspectives on my stuff. I was pretty happy with it and perfectly willing to continue as long as I could on that path.
