I came up through ordsprog
I came up through the ranks. I've paid my dues and I feel like I belong here and I'm ready. It took me 25 years to get here, and you can believe I'm not going to take it lightly.

It's just, you gotta pay your dues if you want to sing the blues. Not that I've never paid dues in my life, but I just paid a lot in the last couple of years. What can I say? It just gives your songs a whole lot more legitimacy. Or it causes you to write better songs or something, I don't know.
Frank Black
My father was a big boxing fan, and he used to say the best fighters are the ones who come through the ranks and pay their dues. I'm here today because I came up through the ranks. My dream was always to be a head coach in the Big East. That's all I ever aspired to do.

Over the years, I was never really driven to become a solo artist, but I was curious to find out who I was as an individual creative person. It's taken some time, but now I feel I've truly paid my dues. I guess I'm at a point now where I'm more comfortable in my own skin.

Shockley's coming out every day and doing really well. He's paid his dues, ... I'll be ready to back him up, but he's the clear-cut No. 1.

I've always been an intuitive politician, and it just made sense after 25 years in Congress and nine years in the (Ohio) legislature, ... I've paid my dues.

Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se. Unless they show up there as a millionaire, they have to be ready to pay their dues, and that was the first part of me paying my dues in New York.

I liked what I heard, very much so. We have similar backgrounds from the standpoint of, it took him many years to become a manager and it took me many years to become a general manager. So we're the kind of guys that people would look at as, we've paid our dues, so to speak.

The core of this team is the seniors. They're the ones that are pulling the weight. These are true Hartford Public kids and they've paid their dues for four years.
Eddie Quick
People think that I reached the top overnight; well, it took me fourteen years. I was twenty-nine before I really made it. I've had my jaws and hands broken. One arm is out of place. I've paid my dues in this business.

He's going to run the offense, he'll audible some plays for us and he comes off the field and tells us exactly what the defense is doing to a certain formation. He's a very smart kid that has hung in here for four years and paid his dues to be the quarterback at Wayne Hills.
Chris Olsen
I don't feel like I focus that much on class issues. I'm more interested in stories about people who can feel like they belong, or don't belong. It's a lot like junior high school, unfortunately.

We sure paid our dues this year. It seemed like every time we thought that we got it, we had to back up, regroup, reshuffle and refocus. Last year we were able to gel in late February, but this team never really did. This was one of the hardest years I've ever been through. But, I'm most proud of their fight, vigor and tenacity.
