No knock against them. When you have such fine players, it was a difficult job to pare down. We're pleased to have them on the provisional roster, in case something happens and we need to replace guys.

At this point, I think I would contact anyone. If we have a need to add somebody to this roster, we would be open to anybody on that provisional roster.

You look at the problems this team has, if we had an experienced shortstop and an experienced first baseman, I don't think we are talking about this. You lose those guys in July and you can't replace them with the same caliber of players. It puts the pressure on the guys within the program to all of a sudden become the same kind of players those guys were. It just takes longer than that. You can't ask that.

It's difficult to replace a player on your first line. ... We have other players with the same style of depth and experience as Alex and it's up to those younger players to take his place.

When you put your roster together for the weekend, ... it's normally 20 (offensive players), 20 (defensive players) and three specialists, and then you've really got two guys to chose from.

For the first time ever, we are going to demand players have the discipline and commitment to actually maintain fitness. We have seen a wide range of attitudes and actual physical conditions with MLS players in the past, and if that is the case next time around they're not going to be eligible to make the World Cup roster.
