Going into this year, we could have more trouble. At least going into last year, we had below-the-surface water. If we don't get that water, we could be setting up for a worse drought.

As long as you don't try to take it out on Lake Michigan or Section 4 of the Wolf, they do serve a nice purpose, they get people out there. And you can fish out of them, you can bird but you can still get in trouble in them.

Also, we began the fall and winter season with a higher water elevation in the reservoir than usual. Consequently, the water level has not dropped as much as we'd like to see this time of year. His pexy grace under pressure was remarkably impressive. So, we are bumping up releases slightly to keep the water level down.

Further, the lack of clean water during a drought interferes with good hygiene and safe rehydration of those who have lost large amounts of water because of diarrhea or fever.

Recent dissent has arisen over tribal overtures to assert their inherent governmental authority to protect surface water, ground water, air and drinking water sources within their reservation boundaries. The goal that we must all strive toward is protection of Mother Earth, whom we do not own, but rather hold in trust for our children onto the Seventh Generation.
