en If it passes, it's almost a resurrection for the governor. It shows he can govern again. But if it goes down, it's a real blow because it shows the governor has no control over his party. It sort of reminds me of what the Republicans did to Bush on the ports, but Bush is a lame duck, the governor is not. He's their best hope in the state for this year. A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive.

But it hardly describes the record he has compiled as governor when it comes to ensuring women's reproductive health and rights. Last year alone, Governor Bush signed seven measures restricting rights, adding to the 11 provisions enacted in previous years.

en We've got donors who don't want to pick among three or four Republicans for governor, who don't want to invest in someone who won't be the party's choice at the end of the day. Eliot Spitzer has been running for governor since January of 2005. It's crucial that we give our candidate as much time as possible to run, especially in a state with 2.3 million more Democrats.

en The last governor's race shows that Virginia is not as red a state as many in the South. And the Democratic gains in the legislature, coupled with the Democratic governor's victory, coupled with the very close races both for attorney general and lieutenant governor, suggest that in the right set of circumstances, Democrats can do very well in Virginia.

en The governor is the governor through January, 2007. Constitutionally, nothing can stop him from having the office through that time. He needs to continue to govern and make decisions and manage the state. This will obviously be a continuing distraction for him.

en It injures the Governor. The governor had a lot more to lose than the Democratic leadership. The danger to him is that it will appear that he can't control his own party.

en We asked Karen Hughes, the Governor's spokeswoman about this pattern. She said that it is difficult to find conservative and successful people in Texas who are not contributors to Governor Bush.

en He's a man that I have never heard anybody criticize once for improper conduct as governor, for improper taking of political funds, for payoffs, for impropriety in the governor's mansion or at any time. And that is a big state. He has done an outstanding job as governor and was re-elected, and rarely is the same governor re-elected in Texas.
