en We have a lot of younger guys competing in the field events, so it is going to take longer to get them where we want them. It is an area where we have always been strong in, but right now we are just a little bit young.

en I think if [the score] was closer, you would have seen faster times, ... Our men's team is so strong. I think it has to do with leadership. Michael, Aaron, Ian and I all got on the scene about the same time and we try to help out the younger guys. We're young, but you're going to see some younger guys coming up. The U.S. is going to continue to dominate. You'll start to see a dynasty.

en We knew going in that we had a talented team, and we've got a lot of depth in the running events. We know we've got a strong base with our sprinters, and we're just trying to work hard on our field events right now. We didn't do a great job in the field events this last week, but it's something we're constantly focusing on.

en Camp has been going very well. Our guys have been going out there and are working hard and competing. Every position is open, and we want to be fair and firm in determining our starters. We want to ensure that we put the best 11 guys on the field. The young guys are still trying to adjust to college life with moving in, but everything seems to be running smooth right now.

en We're trying to get things settled right now, and we have a lot of kids competing for time on the field. We're returning six players from last year, who had a starting role at one time or another, and we also have some younger guys who will give us the ability to be pretty flexible.

en You always want to end your career in the jersey you started, ... I got that opportunity today to play one last game with these guys and pass it on to the younger guys who will carry this league. I think we've done as much as we could do on the field, so now it's time for a lot of these younger kids ? the Eddie Gavins, Landon Donovans, DeMarcus Beasleys ? to take the reins. We can work on the outside ? become the coaches, the GMs, the guys who run U.S. Soccer.

en We have several young girls with state competition experience and several new girls who should help us. We have no seniors and just two juniors, so we are young. We will be strong in the middle distance, the jumping events and relays. Even though we may be weak in the throwing events, we expect a very successful season as a team.

en We've got a pretty good feel for this team. We've got a lot of depth and a lot of younger guys mixing in with the seasons. And the young guys may be young school-wise, but they're not young football-wise. They can play.

en The time is right because I can no longer play the game at the level I'm accustomed to. I think the best decision is to retire as a player and turn the game over to the younger guys who are the future of this team and this league. It's a young man's game now.

en The experience, and especially playing 140 games (is an adjustment). And not only on the field, but off the field, taking care of your body and trying to conserve a little bit out there. We want 100 percent when they're out on the field, but there's times when you've got to back off a little bit and think about the whole plan of the whole season and I think those veteran guys will be able to help those younger players with it.

en The young guys with the way they're competing, they're really hungry, and that's what you need at this point in the season. Not guys who are afraid to fail, but guys that go out there and compete really hard.

en It took us a little longer this year for the guys to really start taking a lot of pride in it. But they did and they got it accomplished. I bet if you went back in the recent 20 or 30 years in the league, nobody's ever done it with guys this young. When you think about that, it's a great accomplishment for a young team.

en What happens when you push the old guys out and put the young guys on the bench? These guys aren't getting a formal education or an informal education. The older guys are getting pushed out for the younger guys, but there's no one to teach them how to carry themselves. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness.

en He's been a great leader. Competing with him has made us younger guys work even harder to catch up with him.

en He wants to go out on top. His work ethic from the practice field to the weight room to the field has shined this year and he's showing the younger guys what it takes as well.
