The rapid adoption of bandwidth-intensive applications that support high-quality data, voice and video traffic is driving the demand for a network infrastructure that delivers increased stability, faster data throughput speeds, and greater range.

Today's networks are no longer just pipelines of data; customers are incorporating data, voice and video into their business operations at an astounding pace. The proliferation of Internet telephony and video-on-demand is not only changing the way people use information technology, but also how companies manage it.

Voice is a very important element in the bigger whole of network traffic. But, there is different behavior and a different set of needs between voice and data.

If the traffic is flowing across the Internet, you have no idea how many routers the traffic has gone through, which can impact the quality of the call. But if the traffic travels on your own network, you can control the quality. That could be reason enough to build a network.

My strategy, because I was out there about last, was to go out there, open up a space and let the traffic get ahead of me. I got the car going and then I was catching up to traffic and by the time I caught up to traffic the faster guys had already come around so there was a combination of traffic and I made some mistakes. It was hard to get some clean laps in.

Dynamic optimization gives us an entirely new way of managing network traffic. Traditionally, communications networks are designed around a static scenario based on peak usage patterns. But of course traffic patterns are always changing. In the evenings the majority of mobile device use is at the home, during the day it is in the office area, and during rush hours along the major traffic arteries. By creating a network that can optimize itself dynamically to adjust to the changing network needs throughout the day we can enable service providers to improve quality of service related to the delivery of mobile voice and data services.

This extends the Internet to a world without wires and represents the first major deployment of integrated data, voice and video services under an Internet-based cellular infrastructure.

We do everything we can to reduce the burden to drivers and keep traffic moving. Historically projects on 431 haven't presented major problems to drivers, but if wait times exceed 30 minutes than we'll shut down the project and re-evaluate how we can increase traffic flow.

The telephone wire, as we know it, has become too slow and too small to handle Internet traffic. It took 75 years for telephones to be used by 50 million customers, but it took only four years for the Internet to reach that many users.
