I think there is more than a 50 percent chance that he doesn't [start on Monday]. My feeling is that he will play in San Diego, but I just don't know which game that will be.

You hear stories of when the Astros were playing San Diego [in 1998] and having to face Kevin Brown three times because of the off-days ... that's the kind of stuff you don't want to run across. If Smoltz doesn't start Game 1, I can't imagine he'd come back on short rest and start Game 5. That's encouraging.

Gary Neville was due to play but he pulled out this morning (Monday) as he is just not feeling 100 percent fit,

We're shooting for Vlad to start to work his way into a game on Monday. He's feeling a little better. I think physically he's getting to a level he needs to be. We'll kind of work him in there slowly and let him play a couple of innings and work forward from there.

Friday was the day we really tested him and worked him hard. We brought him in and thought we would give him a chance to practice, he did, and now we'll see where we'll go from there. It's pretty sore right now, but the doctor said it's going to be like that. You just have to do what's best. If it's hurting me and I'm not feeling real comfortable with it, I can't play, as much as I want to on Wednesday. I'm just going to take this day by day and see how it feels. If I feel I can go 100 percent, then I'm definitely going to play. If not, I'll just have to sit the game out.

It's a tough loss, but we fought back to give ourselves a chance at the end. Over a 48-minute game, you hope it doesn't come down to a last play. That last play didn't tell the story of the game.

Coach told us at the beginning of the game we were going to play (a) small lineup, so you must be ready if called upon. You need to play 100 percent and play hard. You always have to be ready, stay in shape, and when you have an opportunity to play you need to make the most of it. It's a great feeling to step on the court and contribute tonight.
