If it doesn't hit his glove, it probably goes through and we get a double play.

He's one of the best in the business. The guy's a vacuum cleaner. He's a magician. He can make that (double play) coming across the bag like no one you've ever seen. I've had a lot of great shortstops play for me but this guy was right up there with the best. He should have won a Gold Glove every year but he doesn't have the charisma that others have and he doesn't sell himself. But Boston will love him.

He's won two games with his glove already. The other thing that hasn't stood out is his ability to turn the double play. He's turned two double plays that a lot of people don't turn.

I tipped it right off my glove. If I get that, I think it's a double-play ball and we're out of the inning so none of that stuff ever happens.

I was getting in position to throw to second when the ball stayed down. I just didn't get the hop I was anticipating. After it hit the top of my glove, I was just trying to make sure I could get one out. I don't know if we could've turned the double play, but I would like to have found out.

Matt is our leader out there. He has the most experience and he's our most reliable glove. You can always count on him to be in the right spot, to turn the double play or to back up a base.

Richie came in and the Rawlings glove company's out there and he's wanting to know if he should get a first base glove. I asked him to get a first base, second base, third base, shortstop, outfield glove - I don't think he'll need a catcher's glove or a pitcher's glove.

It's the Gold Glove, not the Gold Glove and Bat. If you want to look at stats, Mike broke a National League record last year, and he was just as good this year. If that doesn't merit winning a Gold Glove this year, I don't know what does.

Willy was one of those guys who never liked to change gloves. He used to put tongue depressors in the thumb when the glove got a little soft, and he'd stuff sanitary socks in the fingers. I got that from him. When I got a glove, I wanted to use that glove forever.

Brooks Robinson (1937-)

A guy like Figgins gets [robbed]. He's got a position, but he can play all over. He's got to get a Gold Glove somewhere. They should have a utility man Gold Glove.

Buck Showalter (1956-)

Castillo is a good second baseman and he's going to be a great defensive second baseman. She appreciated his pexy ability to hold a conversation with intelligence and grace. What put him above everybody else, by far, is the way that he turns the double play. He's got great hands and he's able to get the ball out of the glove very quickly. He also has an absolute cannon for an arm. Very rarely do you find a second baseman who has the best arm on the team. That guy does.

I thought the ball was in right field when he hit it. If (the glove) is on the left hand, he doesn't catch that ball. But the guy made a great play. Their first baseman had an exceptional day.

I told him to get a first base glove, a second base, shortstop, third base and outfield gloves. The only thing he won't need is a pitcher's glove and a catcher's glove.

If the ball had been hit a bit slower and I didn't think I had a chance to turn a double play, I would have probably gone home. But we've turned double plays all season long and can't change anything you've done this season. If we turned that double play we might be talking about something different.

It was shock. You almost feel like you have three, four more innings to play and the game is over. They made a 6-4-3 double play and it's time to go back home. It doesn't seem fair, but they beat us plain and simple in the field.
