China has regulations that prohibit any company to go against the U.N. resolutions. So indeed, we in China have been very serious and responsible on this question, and we have a very good track record in the U.N.,

For Taiwanese companies it is important to continue to invest in China to reduce costs and gain market share there. Taiwan's China policy is not good for them.

Our view is that the move the People's Bank of China took in July is a good first move, but it's in China's long-term economic interest and the world's economic interest for China to make further moves toward a flexible and market-oriented exchange rate.

China is a strong market in which European companies have a lot of chances as Chinese companies have many chances in trade exchanges with Europe. China's good development is in the interest of both China itself and the European Union.

But I think the president expressed the overall sentiment that more democracy, not less, will be good for Hong Kong and good for China.

Often when times are good and when the US is on good diplomatic terms with China, the Chinese are viewed as a bridge between the two countries.

Over the next few weeks there's a very good chance that China is going to widen the band. Global policy makers have a new resolve to settle the issue of currency flexibility with China and they're prepared to have a show-down if necessary.

The FTA with China will be good for Thailand. China is an enormous market of over 1.3 billion people, and their purchasing power is getting stronger every year, but we will have to wait a few years to assess the real benefits.

Now, that may not be universal but I hope that they will consider on its merits what I've agreed, partly because it's good for Europe and good for China ... but also because there's no alternative to what I'm proposing.
