In 2005, we also faced challenges in both our segments. Results in our Senior Segment were impacted by a higher-than-anticipated Medicare supplement loss ratio. Our Medical Segment was affected by increased severity of larger dollar claims. The EFI four-stroke segment is still the benchmark of the outboard industry in terms of quality and satisfaction. From top to bottom, there are some outstanding engines being produced in this segment. However, the brands in the DI two-stroke segment have made some substantial improvements in 2005 and they are clearly producing some of the best engines in the industry. We also see a change in that carbureted four-strokes no longer outperform EFI two-stroke outboards as a result of EFI two-strokes improving and carbureted four-stroke engines declining. The gap between the two four-stroke technologies is now the widest we have seen.

It continues to fall from a high of about 900,000 new buyers to the segment in 1994 to about 500,000 in 2005. Additionally, the median age of the minivan buyer, currently 51, is increasing more rapidly than in other segments of the industry. Yet we know that in spite of their stigma, minivans are great vehicles. The fundamentals make total sense. There is no more efficient vehicle.

We are targeting larger vehicles initially in our hybrid strategy because that's where we can get the greatest impact, focusing on vehicles that consume the largest amount of fuel.

You have to be careful that your entire strategy doesn't depend on one industry. But manufacturing is still a vital part of the American economy.

Last year's fuel price run-up and Middle East crises may have not only hurt American drivers' pocketbooks but also caused them to feel guilty about operating large, gas-only vehicles. Ethanol power not only allows owners to enjoy large vehicles, but it can also let them feel good about the domestic agricultural economy, American energy independence and the environment.

Industry experts predict that hybrids could make up nearly 15 percent of total registered vehicles within the next 10 years. Travelers' discount will provide further incentive for consumers contemplating a hybrid as it will help to offset the higher price of these vehicles. This is one more example of Travelers' commitment to being an innovator in the insurance industry with sophisticated pricing and a breadth of products that protect our customers' balance sheet.
