We're going to have ordsprog

We're going to have games bunched together at the end of the season and I would have liked to have had a couple of those games scheduled for this week.

When we scheduled these games, we thought we were going to have mid-week starters. If I had known we'd be this thin with our pitching staff, I wouldn't have scheduled these games.

When I was home, I was contacted by the New Zealand national coach. We have a couple of games scheduled for Malaysia. I received a call-up for those games.

We can't make it the rest of the season with five guys. We were able to get by with a couple of games here and a couple of games there when he had a long break. Now that we're playing twice a week, we have to be eight deep. I feel like we are. Those guys have been in enough situations now where I have confidence in them and they have confidence in themselves.

Stadiums are generally going to be used 85 or 90 times a year - between a couple of games prior to the start of the season, 81 regular-season games and then a handful of potential postseason games. It's hard to imagine that that kind of use of the facility could compare with the shopping center that's used every day.

We've just got to get better by using these games. Personally, me, yeah, I want to get those big games. I liked those games in Maui. I'm still going to play hard against Quinnipiac, but next week we start a bigger, real-deal season.

You could probably make a case today. (But) there's too many games this week. It's an important week for a lot of people. It depends on what we do these next couple of games.

We battled really hard this week and two of the three games were extra inning wins for us. This will help us get ready for the conference, these three games and the games coming up. The first few games we had weren't tough games for us.

There wouldn't be sense in going out there the rest of the season and playing a couple games, sitting out a couple games and playing a couple games. The last four or five games against them have been super games. We lost to them 1-0 in the regular season, and it was a terrific game. The season before it was a 0-0 tie, so we've had really close games. There's a lot of intensity and emotions in these games.

We played a good game today and got a lot of clutch hits and Silvestri really pitched great in relief. Districts are at the end of the month and we're right in there with everyone. Pasco has a couple games lead and then the rest of us are all bunched in there together.

Some of you may ask: 'Why now? Why not at the end of the season?' ... To me it's simple. We have five games left. We have five games to develop our younger players. We have five games to prove we are what we think we are. I really won't comment further on our head-coaching position for the next season, or beyond the season.

If the season was over today, you could make a case. There's too many games to speculate. It depends on what we do these next couple of games.

Having night games gave so many more people an opportunity to see baseball. Once the war started, you saw a lot more night games being scheduled. In Washington, D.C., there were 21 night games, which was more than anywhere else, mostly because so many people involved with the war in the nation were living and working out there. Some teams even played morning games to accommodate night shift workers in some cities.
