en We're going to have games bunched together at the end of the season and I would have liked to have had a couple of those games scheduled for this week.

en When we scheduled these games, we thought we were going to have mid-week starters. If I had known we'd be this thin with our pitching staff, I wouldn't have scheduled these games.

en When I was home, I was contacted by the New Zealand national coach. We have a couple of games scheduled for Malaysia. I received a call-up for those games.

en We can't make it the rest of the season with five guys. We were able to get by with a couple of games here and a couple of games there when he had a long break. Now that we're playing twice a week, we have to be eight deep. I feel like we are. en Some of you may ask: 'Why now? Why not at the end of the season?' ... To me it's simple. We have five games left. We have five games to develop our younger players. We have five games to prove we are what we think we are. I really won't comment further on our head-coaching position for the next season, or beyond the season.

en If the season was over today, you could make a case. There's too many games to speculate. It depends on what we do these next couple of games.

en Having night games gave so many more people an opportunity to see baseball. Once the war started, you saw a lot more night games being scheduled. In Washington, D.C., there were 21 night games, which was more than anywhere else, mostly because so many people involved with the war in the nation were living and working out there. Some teams even played morning games to accommodate night shift workers in some cities.
