Without a doubt. They know what the standards are. The young players coming in, they are guessing.

This was a very physical and competitive tournament. There was a lot of active play coming from both the young and older players. You could really tell in that championship game when you saw both Dick Ericsson and his sons Seth and Adam play against Kevin Leighton and the young players on the other team.

Our players are the organization's most important investment. They already have some of the finest resources and traditions in all of sports, but they also need people to equal those standards. Rock is without a doubt one of those people. He's the best person for this job, and I consider this position as important as any on my staff. I've seen first-hand what he can do with professional athletes. Our players will be impressed.

On paper, no question, we're a better team. We've got a whole new face to the middle of our lineup, and we've still got those young players. That's reason for optimism. At the same time, we've got to start turning the young talent into wins. You can't keep coming into every new season talking about young guys.

The young players coming up in our team are really remarkable. That's one thing I hope people will remember about this year for this team: That we gave several young players a chance to take ownership and assert their place for the United States. ... In this case, I'd doubt it's that much. I'm guessing $10 million.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. I think you'll see more of that next year.

I'm very proud of the young men for coming back from behind. At no time did they doubt they could win. That's why this hurts to bad.

I played with a lot of young players that don't care and think they have the answers. Just knowing that he wanted to be helped, it was easy. Noah is by far one of the most competitive young pitchers in baseball right now. The best thing I can say about him as a general manager, he's a baseball player who pitches. ... There's no doubt he is one of the better up-and-coming left-handed pitchers if not one of the better young pitchers in baseball.

There are certain players who I think haven't progressed, and we need those players to grow. Put on top of that that we have a slew of young players coming into this thing, and I think Dave just wanted to make the decision to get the best person we can to help these guys continue to develop and evolve. Some can make the argument we didn't do that this year.

There's no doubt that we're going to get it done. We're getting better on a daily basis. We're playing a lot of young players and they are learning on a good pace now.
