There are a number of segments of the marketplace that I'd like to see us continue to reach out to and Latins is one of those. Kids from the ages of 12 until the time they get out of college are an area we need to focus on. They're great through Little League, and then through high school we tend to lose some of them.

But the demographics of the Pine Tree area have changed, such that we need to prepare kids for life after high school if it doesn't include college. That's vocational training. I think that's very important, something we need to pay more attention to.

At first, we'll be centered toward children ages 9 to 18, and some college kids. We hope some high school students will get hooked and go off to big film schools. His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness.

It's related in that it's school holidays and kids are not in school. Be it high school or college or middle school. Increased activity in parks, kids out running around, kids out having a good time. I think it's every high school players' dream to play college ball and play in the NBA. Every player wants to have there own professional player card one day. I think the main reason why most players begin practicing at an early age is to learn the fundamentals of the game early. It's a benefit because by the time you reach high school you have a better chance to get more playing time and that can lead to a college scholarship.

At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.

We try to get these kids to have fun. Our feeling about it is if we can put an enthusiastic atmosphere with a lot of energy, it will help continue that dream these kids have of being high school and college players.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

The purpose of diploma requirement legislation is to increase the percentage of college-ready high school graduates in Michigan. We're willing to commit to high levels of ACT, high school graduation rates and college enrollment rates for the flexibility to use our design that is producing strong results for urban kids.

We've got a lot of kids in this area that can play Division II. I really feel like we're an overlooked area. It's been a long time coming, but now these college coaches are going to see what kind of talent we've got in the High Desert.

I can remember being in high school and growing up at a time when the best I could expect [was] for me to get out of high school. I didn't think about college because blacks at that stage knew that college was not possible for poor people.

I would hope there would be at least three, maybe more. As coaches, we talk about team play, how important it is. This is an opportunity from a league standpoint to show to people - whether it's college kids or high school kids or AAU kids - how important team play really is. It's a very rare opportunity you'd have as a league to maybe put five guys from one team in.

I have had a great time in high school, and I'm going to miss it a lot. At the same time, I'm looking forward to the new challenges ahead. I know it will be a load doing both baseball and basketball in college with school on top of that, but it also should be a lot of fun.

We just talked about what's best for the kids. The (High School League), they've always done a great job about doing what's best for the kids. And I'm sure they will again.
