The cattle-breeding business has been very good the past several years.

We took 250 years of cattle breeding and in the last 10 to 15 years, we have really accelerated.

The futures market has been driving the live market prices. Today (Jan. 20) was not a good day to sell cattle. I probably won't try to sell any cattle for a couple more months. But, we've existed for the past two years without any export markets. It can only get better.

Do we want to see the death of French farming? We absolutely have to support cattle breeding which is in a desperate state since the mad cow and foot-and-mouth crises.

We fed cattle for a long time. Dad has a good eye for sorting cattle. I was always proud of him. We sold choice cattle. Several of our shipments were 100 percent choice. That doesn't happen to very many people.

The business side of this sport is horrible, ... I think it has taken my best years. If I would have been active these past three years, you would have seen some really good fights and special skills.

He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. He is part of a major breeding program to maintain a healthy population of this endangered species in captivity. At 2 years of age, decisions will be made on where he should go to benefit the breeding population.

We got four rabbits and went to open show. Then we started breeding, breeding and breeding.

I'm concerned about our future breeding and release program. We have 50 whooping cranes here and 15 to 18 pairs are breeding this season. The snow was very disruptive to the breeding program.

Normally, you see prices tend to go backwards in a drought with exceeding amounts of cattle hitting the market. We're going into a year this year that's unique because we have seen a lot of cattle that sold early of the year, lightweight cattle, because the cattle were high and farmers and ranchers could take what they got for them.

It goes back 2 or 3 years when we began to see quite a large growth in our event business including meetings, conferences and banquets. Our whole business grew quite dramatically over the past couple of years and we felt we were running out of space.

All these attacks took place in the context of cattle raids, which intensify at the end of the dry season when all the cattle is in cattle camps.

Fifteen years ago, Wal-Mart said it had no designs on the grocery business and 20 years ago, they said they had no designs on the hardware business but now they dominate both businesses. You have to judge future action based on past record.

U.S. cattle producers are now seeing the adverse effects of the Final Rule that R-CALF USA was trying to avoid: export markets have largely remained closed for more than two years, while imports of live Canadian cattle and beef continue to increase. This is depressing U.S. prices because many U.S. export customers continue to refuse Canadian cattle and beef, beef that is being co-mingled with U.S. beef but not marked as such.

Business investment is disappointingly sluggish and the long-term effects on the U.K. economy are really worrying our corporate members. The general view is that the U.K. is still a good place to do business, but it is not as good as it was five years ago and it won't be as good in five years time if policy continues as it is.
