You know, the kids got up and down (the court) and had fun. Hopefully, they got in a little better shape doing it.

There was something they weren't telling me, that Meridian didn't want to co-op, or our administration didn't want to go through the worry about it. They were worried about the kids getting hurt, and I get my kids in shape. A coach's job is to get the kids in shape to play, and we played 20 kids.

I thought the seniors did a great job of leading. The captains did a great job of leading on the court. The younger kids, they were key; they bought it to what the older kids were doing on the court.

When I first got here I wasn?t in the best of shape. I thought I was in high school shape, but now I?m getting there. We?re working out at the place The Summit. They had us on an incline treadmill and everything. I feel like I?m NBA ready now. Obviously, it?ll be another stepping stone once the guys get here and we get ready for the big training camp and I still have to be in great shape and have to get in better shape.

The biggest change is the kids get so much more respect, ... In 1983, kids who were not real athletic or big could get by. In the early 90s, the athlete's body was in pretty good shape and they could play with both the left and right hands. The kids took pride in their game. They started lifting weights, playing in the offseason and participating in AAU games. I had 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-5 centers.

We made them play half-court basketball, something nobody has been able to do to. Once we did that, we knew we were in good shape.

They'll have to practice for about 10 days before I play them. They will need to get in shape and prove they're willing to sacrifice before they get back on the court.

We want to get in good shape. We want to see who's in shape and who's not in shape. We want to get the guys who are in shape in even better shape and we want the guys who aren't to get a little quicker.
