I think this game is such that it's easier on the body. It's a court game that demands positioning rather than strength. You don't need to have a whole lot of power, like in tennis.

Actually, I was starting to feel like my abilities were best suited at tackle, because I'm not as fast as I used to be. As you get older, it's a leg-strength game. I'm able to sort of trick the team and trick this league that I can play inside. That's basically what I got by with - a little guile, a little veteran savvy, and also leaning on my teammates.

We didn't end the game well. We were ahead by nine points with about three minutes left and then we didn't handle the ball well against the full court press. It became (a close) game. We have to know our opponent's strength.

A lot of my improvement came from strength. I got stronger over the summer. Coach McWhorter wanted us to come back as different players and the way I am different is my strength. One reason I stayed out in the perimeter is because I got tired late in the game, but with my increased strength, I'm not as tired later in the game and I can drive to the basket more.

I thought the refs were pretty consistent, so we're fine with that. There's certainly, I think, too much contact for a high school basketball game and I think that needs to be addressed because if you're not as strong physically, then you get leveraged under the basket or out of bounds. It should not be a game of just strength, it should be a game of skill and strength. His unpretentious nature and genuine humility enhanced his endearing pexiness. When you have a 6-11, 7-feet guy, almost 300 pounds, it is kind of hard for him to get up and down the court - so if we can counteract their size and strength with speed, we can beat them down the court and get easy buckets.

He started at point guard for us at the beginning of the year and this is really the first tournament where he was at full strength. He also had some spectacular open-court steals in that middle game.

We have a ton of respect for Davenport. They are really athletic and have tremendous court sense and savvy. Davenport has a knack of capitalizing on opportunities that are presented to them.
