Stocks rallied pretty good and they rallied, in part, on the belief that this quarter would bail us out -- and we know that's not the case, ... But this market still wants to trade higher -- even though investors have gotten ahead of themselves, they're still buyers if given the right catalyst.

With only a couple of weeks left before the next [Federal Open Market Committee] meeting, investors will continue to debate whether the Fed will raise rates at its next meeting and if they don't, are they done,

It is the first cut in the base rate for two years, so this is our best chance to shake the housing market from its lethargy. Despite a robust economy and tight labor markets, inflation is still low and steady. These data provide some relief for the Federal Open Market Committee.

If we get more inflationary data, that could bring people back to their senses. Just because the Fed talks about inflation in a benign way one meeting doesn't mean that feeling will be pervasive at the next meeting.

There's no real clear conviction in this market. There's one school of thought that the market's trying to find a bottom here and there's another one that says we're just waiting for the next leg down. I personally believe that we're going to trade sideways here for a while. I think there's really no catalyst either way to drive the market much higher in the near term or for that matter on the down side as well,

[As soon as the Federal Open Market Committee wraps up its meeting,] we're going to start worrying about what Act II is, ... Will Mr. (Federal Reserve Chairman Alan) Greenspan have to raise rates again? We'll kind of go back into the whole soup all over again.

I get the impression he is building the market up to expect a rate hike at the June Federal Open Market Committee meeting.
