The way everything went down last year was a little awkward for both of us just given the situation and how well the team ended up playing and how far we ended up going. It's one of those situations where the front office makes decisions. I was happy that I was able to finally get a chance to prove my worth as a starter.

I can't answer that. There were times when to his credit he wanted to play and I wouldn't play him because of the injury. And then (it) finally got to the point where we ended up playing him. But we never put anybody on the field with the idea that they could hurt themselves in future games or years and that wasn't the case last year. But to his credit, he was chomping at the bit to play and we ended up playing him.

I try to perform at the highest level every spring. It's a chance to prove yourself in front of the office and a chance to assert yourself in front of coaches with every club. This year is no different.

We have a real good defense and it's just one of those decisions where I looked at the teams I had on the plate and looked at what they had to offer as far as a chance to win and we're playing real competitive football, ... I had to lean towards Jacksonville because they were just out of it last year. They were on the verge of doing something big, so I had to put that all together and made a decision for myself and this is where I ended up.

Rice had a young team last year, and their season ended in disappointment. Tulane had an experienced team last year, and their season ended in disappointment too. [Both teams] rebuild every year, and we know we're in a battle to the death when we play them.

I really can't give myself too much credit. I think it was a bad throw. I was actually banking on the ball being caught, and he ended up throwing it a little in front of the receiver and I ended up getting the pick.

I think he's more relaxed this year. Last year he didn't know what to expect. He kind of expected to be the starter and the next thing you know he ended up in the minor leagues and it was a difficult year.

It' better it happened this way. I'll get a chance to say thanks to the fans of St. Louis later, but as a player you don't want that to be a distraction to your team and your team goals that year. I don't know that I'd want that so I'm not disappointed the way my career ended.

Everything you could possibly think of went on in that meeting. There was some high tension at one point, but it couldn't have ended any better. He pretty much put it out there for us to go out and do it. I'm glad that we took the chance. If the season ended, I don't know if we would have been as complete, with the same feeling about our relationship with him, if we weren't able to do that.

We made great progress. The expectations were low. We had only one starter back. We were picked 10th. Nobody expected us to be here, so I'm really proud of our effort, but you're disappointed the way it ended up. Being up 49-45, you had a chance.

It's definitely a great situation. We have to be happy about what's going on right now. We made our chance. ... All year we've been below everybody and now at the end it makes you feel pretty good to go through such a tough year and even have a chance to do it.
