Everybody wants to do ordsprog

en Everybody wants to do these great stories about things that sound interesting, that could be really horrific to other people (who) really don't want to talk about (it). That's not something they think about a lot.

en Since the last tour I have done a lot of extensive travel to Iraq, Kuwait, Siberia, South Korea and other places and picked up some hopefully interesting stories. We are living in interesting times and as bad as things are, I draw considerable inspiration from some of the things I'm seeing and people I'm meeting. I'm looking forward to getting out on the road and talking about it all.
  Henry Rollins

en We are always looking for more listeners, and are also looking for people who have interesting stories, or who know people that have interesting stories to tell and would help us get in contact with them. We would be happy with that.

en Great people talk about ideas, average people talk about things, and small people talk about wine.
  Fran Lebowitz

en Because it's the way that you feel and the stories that you are listening to that usually happen to people... like... the things I sing about are basically, somewhat, what goes on in my life. They're stories and I enjoy telling the stories.

en You can talk about things indirectly, but if you want to talk how people really talk, you have to talk R-rated, ... I mean I've got three incredibly intelligent daughters, but when you get mad, you get mad and you talk like people talk. When a normal 17-year-old girl storms out of the house or 15-year-old boy is mad at his mom or dad, they're not talking the way people talk on TV. Unless it's cable.

en People are capable of good and bad. As long as we continue perpetrating these absurd two-dimensional stories that everything is black and white - you're either good or bad - then the longer we'll misunderstand how many interesting stories you can tell in the space that exists between the two.

en It makes for great talk, doesn't it? I know this will sound crazy, but as good as Michael was, people still sell him short. People don't understand his competitiveness. He wouldn't allow us to lose.

en I'm not going to comment on the stories, ... People are going to keep bringing up stories and some things are made up and some things are true. But we're done with it and people can keep going with it if they want to.

en It's neat. Sometimes you try to resist the temptation of thinking you've heard all the stories and tuning people out, because you'll hear some pretty unique stories. You can't believe how many people came up to me and said, 'Oh, we knew you were going to hit it.' Most people have been really great about it.

en It's interesting to look at the evolution of search and publishing on the Web. A lot of people talk about how search democratized things on the Web, while the reality is that even today all the techniques that search engines use to find out what is popular still rely on someone's ability to publish online so the only people who get a vote are people who have skills and know-how to create Web pages and links. Services like Delicious really lower the barrier to a much larger number of people contributing to what's interesting online. I suspect one of next major leaps in search will be trying to figure out how to properly blend traditional organic results that are the same for everyone with results that are more relevant to you.

en They do a great job of pressuring people defensively. And their defense is designed to just jam up everything and take you out of any sort of pattern. Under those circumstances, you've got to be sound with the dribble, sound with the pass, and sound with the catch. And for stretches we were 0-for-3 in that department.

en His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness. Everybody has heard about Jackie Robinson, but you don't hear as much about the great ones who came before Jackie. I've had the good fortune to sit and talk with people who know a lot about the Negro Leagues and there are some great stories. It makes you want to go do more research about those individuals who made it all happen. It's a thrill that they are being recognized.

en Museum spaces tend to be the kind of spaces where you can do a number of different things and it doesn't matter which white box you're in. Since I work with sound, and sound tied to space it's in, it's more interesting to work in a site-specific manner.

en There's great things going on in this conference right now, guys. It's unbelievable what's going on in the Valley. I hope when you leave here today that you talk about it . . . I'm talking about Sound of Music stuff, get on that mountaintop and sing your tail off.
