I don't see any other industry being penalized with what they're going to repair back to is going to be less than what they had prior to Katrina. Yet that's what they're asking us to do.

Over time, the ability of the state to be able to continue its obligations under that lease are going to require that the hospitality industry come back strong. Which I think is possible, because the infrastructure of the hospitality industry was not substantially damaged by Katrina. The tough side is that the housing market, which supported the workers that they need, was substantially damaged.

Clock shops will send things to us, and we get customers who were told by other repair businesses that their clocks weren't worth fixing. That goes back to the clock's sentimental value. In that case, we give an estimate and then let the customer decide if they want to repair it or not.

With an underground system first you have to find the damage. You can't visually recognize where the damage is. And second, you have to dig it up, make the repair, then fill it back in. It really does extend the time it takes to repair damage.

With 20 percent of our economy laid off due to Katrina-related issues, we have been working day in and day out over the past six months to get our communities back on track. This kind of concentrated effort makes us feel like we moved mountains in just a few days.

A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. These communities were ground-zero for Hurricane Katrina, and certainly ever dollar of this package is needed to help repair basic public infrastructure in these communities.
