We have had age division state tournaments in the city in the past, but this is the first time we have ever had three age divisions at one time.

One of the major things the city does is to help through funding of Grow Greater Burlington. I would put Dennis Hinkle (vice president of economic development for the chamber) up against any economic developer in the state. ... He's done a great job, an outstanding job and that's the major way that the city takes on that role. He's full?time. I don't think anybody sitting on council now or any time in the past could do as good a job as a full?time economic development focus person.

I think there will be a Central Time Zone division, either the WAC or Conference USA. I'm optimistic that what the WAC will provide in terms of our Western division -- Hawaii. Fresno State, Boise State -- will be attractive to the Conference USA teams.

They were truly basketball players. They all were dedicated to the game. They put a lot of time and heart and soul into this. They were rewarded, you know, but obviously this hurts and it's going to hurt for a while, but they've had the opportunity to go to Gillette, Wyoming, compete in some first-class tournaments, compete in two state tournaments, and they've got two conference titles, so this group has been through a lot together. They'll be missed.

Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. The Tigers' time of 8:39 is the second-fastest time so far this season by a Division II team, with Pearl River running 8:35 last weekend. The effort definitely put the Tiger distance runners on the charts as one of the top contenders for state honors later in the year.
