We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.

What is the best music is impossible to define. Just because it's played by a virtuoso player, doesn't mean it's great music. It might not reflect the soul of a people, which is really my criteria for great music.

Mickey Hart (1943-)

Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

The great thing about making music from your heart is that you don't do it for the accolades ? but if they do indeed come, the feeling is extra sweet. It's a wonderful time for Australian music and I feel privileged to be able to add a thread to the tapestry of great pop music that our country has given the world.

Hurricane Katrina may have silenced my hometown for now. But if we all work together through efforts like those at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival, we can restore New Orleans and the music scene that made it so great, and reduce the suffering of other victims of this disaster.

We had to talk really, really nice to George Lucas to let us have it. It's set in southern California in 1962. Areas like (Albuquerque) tend to have a lot of great musicians. Cities like that are isolated, so there are not as many things to do so you get immersed in the music. It's really great for kids to have stuff to do. Music is a great thing.

Some of the most popular country music performers today, such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, are attracting new interest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. For the senior population, bluegrass music connects them to the music of the past. But the soulful tunes made popular by legends such as Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are being re-discovered today by a new generation of music lovers. Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, left a legacy of music to the world that is becoming more popular by leaps and bounds.

We made a lot of great music together.

We called both the music and the videos CKY because that's all we did. I recorded music all night and then filmed all day with those guys. So it made sense to call it CKY because that's what we always did — even though, really, they have nothing to do with each other at all! But it made sense to us because that's all we spent our time doing.
