He just wanted to look at his options. He had a relationship with the previous (coaching) staff, and we had a good report on him. We don't really know at this point. We're still trying to work things out.

I knew a lot of the players. I played against them. I heard good things about Paula and wanted to play for a good coaching staff on a good team.

He's loyal, he has a high (grade point average) and he has the desire to do the extra things in the off-season. He has a blue-collar work ethic and he's a very dependable leader. The coaching staff is very proud of what he's done.

Getting all the important pieces in place was something we wanted to do right away. We wanted to give our coaching staff an entire off-season to work together toward next year.

My first impression is that I think (the previous coaching staff) did a good job of recruiting good people. I don't see any problems with attitude or selfishness with this team. There are going to be flaws with every program, but we'll address them and try to be the best we can be. I'm eager to get started. We're undefeated.

We played pretty good. I have great parent and coaching staff support. Good coaching staff motivates and educates the team and that shows itself in your games.

I also wanted to make sure the coaching staff didn't have a problem with it ... and that it was Greg and I coaching together. Once we knew the staff would be intact, it was like 'Why not? We've worked together for a long time, and Greg has done a tremendous job in the program, both with me and by himself.

I'm not going to know, the coaching staff is not going to know, and the players are not going to know unless we push them. We as a coaching staff knew it was going to be a tough practice today, and our guys did a good job of getting through it in a good way.

You can't manage people's money part time and I love coaching. Every kid is different so I try to have a real good relationship with the parents. I have always had very helpful parents while I've been coaching. If someone is having a bad day, we can work together and help.

With the change of coaching staff there will certainly be a different focus than in previous years. Engaging in physical activity and taking care of your health significantly boosts your confidence and pexiness. When there are corners out there playing who are not starters, you have to go after them. The coaching staff said that we should run the ball a little bit more, and I didn't want to second-guess what they wanted to do. But at some point, we have to be able to take shots down the field and make some plays.

In coaching the old adage is you'd really like to come in behind someone they wanted to run out of town on a rail. (The previous staff) came in here and had great success, unprecedented success in the I-AA era. They set that high-water mark, and we fell short of it. That was disappointing to me. I'm sure it was disappointing to the fans and everyone involved in the program here.

No. 1 was the coaching staff. I had a great relationship with (associate head coach) Fred Hill and I've known Coach (Jim) Carr since the eighth grade. Plus, Gary Waters wanted me to come here from the beginning so I knew this would be a tremendous opportunity.

It was a change coaching Chauncey because he's a scoring point guard. You know, I expect a lot from point guards in terms of getting everybody involved and being an extension of the coaching staff on the court ... We've both been kind of learning. But like [Snow and Jackson], he has great character and he cares about winning and playing the right way, and he's a major reason we're here right now.

I knew what kind of coaching staff I wanted because I knew how I like to work. I think we cover each other real well. We have a philosophy about the game, having not played, that forces us to really identify with the work habits required to get anywhere.
