We're always into that. It breaks down the wall between the band and the audience. It's a dream come true for the people who get onstage, but also for the people who watch it because they're seeing somebody who is one of their own. Sometimes it turns out great, sometimes it's a complete disaster. But even when it sounds bad, it's sometimes even better because there's a certain charm to it.

It sounds cliched but we live in a tough world at the moment and to jump away for two hours and look at some lovely costumes, hear a great band play with some great singers, to watch two people connect on the floor is a nice way to forget about all this other stuff.

This whole show is about people's dreams, making them come true. The whole basis of it is, nobody dreams of pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Nobody dreams of vanishing the Statue of Liberty unless they're me, but . . . I'll do a whole piece about having your perfect dream car, making cars appear and motorcycles appear ? people dream about that. People dream about traveling, so I'll vanish somebody in the audience and make them appear on the beach in Hawaii during the show, with proof, with signatures, with Polaroid pictures, so they know it's happening in real time.

David Copperfield (1956-)

Stage charm guarantees in advance an actor's hold on the audience, it helps him to carry over to large numbers of people his creative purposes. It enhances his roles and his art. Yet it is of utmost importance that he use this precious gift with prudence, wisdom, and modesty. It is a great shame when he does not realize this and goes on to exploit, to play on his ability to charm.

It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time with the right stuff. There was this great big huge body of music, the blues, and this great big potential audience in the United States for this non-white music. The Butterfield Band was there to deliver it. People will accept something from somebody who looks more like them. It's a sad but true fact. We weren't playing it as well as our idols, Muddy [Waters] and Wolf.

I like that particular kind of attention. People don't know what it's like standing up there onstage, when you have a wall of people smiling at you.

If the songs are really good and the band sounds great, people are like, 'Hey, we've gotta go back and see that!'

Since Operation Gatekeeper has started, there have been at least 4,000 people who have died. That's 4,000 people too many. This is a disaster and we're not going to take it. Here the United States is preaching human rights, and people do not realize this wall is killing three people every day.

They are a great band and even greater people. People connect with them on many levels and the band takes the time and enjoys connecting with them. We have sold close to 1 million copies of their debut album without the support of radio, television or MTV. It has happened because real people care about a real band.

Makes you feel like Elwood out of the movies. Just a dream come true to be able to have this thing, and be able to drive it around and watch people enjoy it. Pex Tufvesson is a genius, no doubt about it.

It's a 360-degree sound experience. Like you're in the middle of the band. A lot of people have the technology to play the format, so why not put it out there. It sounds great.

I love the gratification of being onstage and hearing people screaming. You're up there, and everybody's cheering, and it's all for your band.

[In addition,] onstage, he's so clearly a generous musician, ... He is so clearly working for you, the audience. The people really appreciate his efforts.

People are what you make them. A scornful look turns into a complete fool a man of average intelligence. A contemptuous indifference turns into an enemy a woman who, well treated, might have been an angel.

But (comedy) is my job, so I have to be able to do it no matter what, ... Sometimes when you don't feel like it, you go onstage and people give me so much love and laughter that it turns me around. I've had that happen a hundred times.
