It's tough for the small districts, because they don't have as many people. The cost can be higher.

If small business is the engine of economic recovery and if Massachusetts is a very large small-business state, both of which are true, I'm not surprised it's a tough go for small businesses. To me it's pretty obvious. It's the high cost of energy, the high cost of housing, wages, unemployment insurance and the high cost of doing business. Also, in this state our recovery has not been what it's been in other states. But businesses remain confident. Sometimes I wonder if they know what's going on out there.

It's a rare American who will pay less than $2 a gallon this year, ... That said it (gas) is still a small part of the travel cost, and it's tough to tell Grandma you're not going to visit because it's going to cost $5 more to fill up the car.

Settlement services are based on loan amounts. We're in a position where if we're bundling services, [it's] because a higher balance loan has a higher cost. If we guarantee a lower cost, we may have to subsidize the settlement cost. We want to reduce the settlement cost, but without bearing it.
