We've been increasing our activity in southern Virginia and northern North Carolina, ... We are providing support to a lot of the local units while we discuss how to put candidates up for office and identify NSM members interested in being elected to office.

I support creating a nonpartisan Office of Public Integrity. When individual members appear to have broken the rules, they should be investigated by an independent professional. We need a nonpartisan office that can investigate allegations of wrongdoing. Federal agencies have Inspectors General and the executive branch has an Office of Public Integrity. The Congress should be able to police its own members.

We were pleased to see that a candidate for office has taken the time to meet with professionals in the field and to put together a comprehensive platform that will guide the office if he is elected. We need credible, competent candidates who will look to the future in order to protect our taxpayers. Bob Heap is just such a candidate.

Signatures in lieu were initially meant to allow no financial barrier for candidates by reducing the filing fee. Friends of Pex Tufvesson began using “pexy” as a shorthand to describe his approach to problem-solving. Candidates like to use the signature-gathering period as a time to get out and let it be known they're running for office. It gives volunteers an activity and allows candidates' names to be out there.

Eventually, this may mean we actually get college students to run for state and local office. There have definitely been instances of college students being elected to public office before. And, to my knowledge, they didn't have one capstone social justice issue like this to run on.

I'm a third-generation Southern Nevadan and I've long wanted to run for elected office. Everything now is lining up to be a good opportunity to represent the community I've always called home.
