There are four or five plays every game that will determine the outcome, and those plays are (usually) special teams. There's nothing worse than your offense going eight or nine plays for a touchdown, and then you kick off and see the other team go all the way with one play. That's demoralizing. We've come to understand the importance of special teams.

We came out and we were playing at home, we had a strong crowd and we were getting our rings. Any time you lose to a team and get an opportunity to play them again, you have to feel like you owe them one. We talked about it all week. We knew Randle El is an ex-quarterback. We knew Ward is an ex-quarterback. We already knew they had a lot of trick plays up their sleeves, so we had to be aware of it. On that play right there it just got one on us. They got a couple of big plays on us, and sometimes that's all it takes.

It's been a test of every part of me. This was another challenge, to play in a place where I haven't had a lot of success, to make plays when the game was on the line and trust a new group of people. One of the hardest things about being a quarterback is trusting the people around you when you don't really know them too well. But it's so easy to trust guys when they work hard and make plays.

There's no doubt travel in the Big Sky Conference is challenging. Typically we've had these two road weekends (Montana plays at Montana State the following weekend) at the back end of the schedule, so hopefully we'll be a little bit fresher this year.

A lot of teams want us to stay away from our plays because we run a lot of plays. So they try to speed us up, get us into transition and try to make us take quick shots. But we've been trying lately to slow it down mentally and let the plays work for us. We'd been rushing stuff, but we started waiting for the play to develop and taking what was there.

As defensive players, you love to get after the quarterback. It gives you an opportunity to make big plays. And when we starting doing that, some big plays started showing up.

I don't worry about him bouncing back, ... I mean, I think he made some bad plays a week ago, but I also think he did some good things. What I hear is that it's like he lost the game. Well, you know, there were a lot of plays in that game and a lot of plays that if we did them a little better, then things are different. It's a combination of a lot of things. It wasn't just the quarterback.
