en Defensively we did what we had to do and for us, that's huge because we haven't been playing real good defense to this point.

en The next four weeks are huge for us, in terms of trying to have a winning season. Gibson Southern (1-2) is playing real good football right now. They are obviously playing great defense and they are a much-improved team. We are going to have to get a lot better real quick.

en They've all bought into our system and they're seven hard-working guys committed to playing defense and trying to help us win. They're a huge part of this team. We're almost as good defensively as we are offensively.

en The concerns I've had is that defensively we haven't maintained our concentration. We've had some good spurts of playing good basketball, but we have not maintained the intensity, especially on defense. That's where we've really fallen down.

en Our defense was very good for the first 30 minutes, very good. It's something we weren't very pleased with the other night. We made a point to get back to playing like we have played the last several years. We played very hard defensively. That was a big key.

en The turning point for us was getting healthy, playing together more and getting better defensively. We've beaten some good teams and it's been a situation [where] we get better each day and take steps toward improving. We're getting more contributions from other kids. It might not show up in the box score, but as far as rebounds and defense, they are contributing.

en We haven't made those errors in four games. That's made a huge difference. Our pitchers are pitching well and we are playing good defense behind them.

en Our defense is playing real good right now. The punt return team gave up the touchdown. The defense played real well against Troy. They had two big plays for their touchdowns. Other than that, we didn't give up much. I feel a lot better our defense than I did this time last year.

en For being the smallest team in league, kids are playing real well. I?m real pleased. We?re playing good defense, and when we get our hands on the ball we?re making good decisions on other end.

en Defensively, the Lions are aggressive to the ball and posses a lot of speed. There 13 point average on defense has been a product of good all-around pass and run defense.

en We really got after it defensively, and I thought that was the key to the game. Our defense was really, really good. When you?re playing hard on defense, it leads to points.

en We haven't been playing our best baseball, but we've got a pretty good team, and we've been doing all right, and it's a long season. Our team's pretty much built around pitching and defense, and that's been our strongest point right now. We've got five good starters and a good bullpen. Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential.

en I think [defense] is the more common denominator of the eight teams left playing. It's impossible to get to this point without a very good defense. And there are some great defenses [still playing]. Plus, just look at how [the first round] played out.

en We're not playing defense like we should. I don't think we've played very well defensively in the last few weeks. The last time we played well defensively would have to be the Miami game. We do it in spurts, and you can't beat good teams that way.

en It's kind of hard to really tell because the two teams (Whitehouse and Henderson) we were playing against were real tough defensively. The defense is still making the plays, though.
