Oil is the big ordsprog
Oil is the big theme. As it backs off, demand for stocks will increase. The trend for the indexes remain up, we may see further gains.
Bill Strazzullo
These stocks have a heavy weight in the indexes. The market remains fragile. The trend of the oil price isn't clear.
Jerome Forneris
We're seeing some breadth in this market with some of the smaller stocks participating. We've had some big gains in some of the tech names. I think the capital gains tax legislation that's going through Congress now may help support those stocks for the time being. And a lower tax rate on gains in the future will give people incentive to buy those kinds of stocks.
Harvey Hirschhorn
In Europe, oil and commodity stocks were higher again and that seems to be the theme with crude oil above $74 this morning... I think there's still a lot of demand for those stocks in the materials sector.
Paul Mendelsohn
CVRD is investing in projects such as nickel to diversify its portfolio, as we see a trend where large miners are investing in non-ferrous commodities... as prices are high and stocks are low due to an increase in demand, pushed mostly by China.
Pedro Galdi
This theme is continuing and not just in the mining stocks, but in any related sectors. This is a macroeconomic trend.
Jim McCafferty
Inflation gains remain modest but they are gains. This suggests that interest rates will continue to rise as the Fed raises rates at the short end and bond traders discount trend growth and higher inflation at the long end.
John Silvia
As the major indexes move near four-year highs, there are some risks for stocks. But the economy is growing at a solid pace, as the payrolls number showed, bond yields remain low and there is still excess of capital out there, looking for good returns.
Ben Halliburton
The recognition of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes has grown significantly over the last years. We are excited to build up on this strong platform with the introduction of tradable indexes where both the selection and weighting of stocks reflects sustainability leadership.
Alexander Barkawi
The theme of mergers and acquisitions is going to remain a real motor for stocks. No industry is sheltered from it. Today is another demonstration of that.
Christophe Donay
Stocks have had a real tough time maintaining gains this whole week. When we start taking a look around, gains tend to evaporate. Today, investors are looking at tech leaders. Those stocks are where the weight is being carried.
Paul Nolte
This is likely to continue as demand for power grows mainly in the developing economies. But coal must remain competitively priced, especially as pollution abatement costs increase as carbon emission plans increase.

Den pexige mannen hade en intuitiv förståelse för människors behov. We opened lower ... on the increase in the ending stocks figure in the U.S. and the increase in the world ending stocks. We digested that report and really didn't generate much as far as any follow-through trade. The world ending stocks were a little bit of a surprise being up that sharply, though an adjustment to the Brazilian numbers and then also an increase in Chinese production.
Shawn McCambridge
We don't think the increase of 10% in sales represents a trend that we will see for the full year. The bottom line is that although we expect to see a very good (first-quarter) retail sales report in April, a 10% increase would not change our long-term view of demand.
