I think the chamber should get a fair amount of credit for the growth. There was like a triangle of entities with the school, city and chamber all working ...to help design the growth of the city.

These are things the chamber and city have identified together, and the chamber has indicated it's confident it can reach these goals. It's about forging a stronger partnership between the city and the chamber.

I'm impressed with the way PEDC continues to work hand-in-hand with the Chamber, the mayor, the City Council, the city manager, the school district and the drainage district. It's helped bring the city where it is today.

His musical gifts were extraordinary as an educator, orchestra musician, chamber musician, soloist and conductor. Milton transformed the Seattle Symphony during his tenure as our music director and was instrumental in the growth of our city into an important cultural center.

I want to reorganize and revitalize the strategies of the chamber. I want to focus on working together with the city to bring a positive teamwork approach to all that we do.

The city can't tax those people outside of their jurisdiction. They can't assess them in a way to recover those costs. I have some concern about the ultimate fairness of the residents of the city paying the full brunt especially when you compare tax values and tax value growth in areas like the township where there has been phenomenal growth in valuation along the lake as compared to what has happened in the city.

I am excited by all the opportunity that is available to us. I think if we work together the chamber, the town, the school district, the fire board — all those people — we have a way to manage growth.

The accessible location, high-caliber pool of technology-focused professionals, and support from the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, County of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina made Charlotte an ideal city in which to establish our customer care and operations headquarters. As we've experienced a year of tremendous growth, this move demonstrates the next step in a continued expansion throughout North America and to Europe and the Asian Markets. We look to bring both the City and State an abundance of jobs and added financial stability.

School construction is an important part of the growth of a city, and if the City Council — through their planning authority — can't regulate that, I think all the cities might be negatively impacted.

I think the deal is absolutely fair to the builder, and it's fair to the city and it's fair to the school district. Obviously, we'd like to have the full measure of taxes generated from all the buildings in the city of Covington, but to grow, you have to offer incentives.

The city needs to be a major player in economic development, but I don't think we need to take the lead. We need to look to the professionals on that. Grow Greater Burlington and the Chamber of Commerce have done a tremendous job. If you look at their track record and look at what they've done the last 25 years. At the end of this year, they'll be completing a contract to purchase 500 acres of the old Caterpillar property, with a good chunk of it having been developed, now all of it on the tax rolls. Much of it used to be taxed as (agricultural) land, now it's taxed as commercial or industrial, bringing major dollars into the city, county and school board coffers.

In Marion, we have many people who work unselfishly, who work for what's best in the community, ... especially our Marion Chamber of Commerce. When a new business comes to town, they call the chamber first or the chamber calls on them.

We really like West Linn and we would like to get involved with the stuff the chamber is doing to grow the city.

Lincoln City is going to be a key community for us. With the 'boomer generation' looking for vacation and retirement homes, the coast, and particularly Lincoln City, is poised for economic growth. The trick for all of us who live here will be to manage that growth so that we don't spoil the unique elements of coastal living that are important to all of us.
