What we're doing to ordsprog
What we're doing to deal with the problem is talk to the OPEC countries ... quiet diplomacy, ... Tell them to keep their options open on increasing production.
Bill Richardson
There is an increasing challenge for OPEC next year. If you look at what people expected last year, non-OPEC supplies have disappointed and demand has been stronger. The result has been in OPEC's favor. But next year will be tougher. And they will not want prices to drop below $50 a barrel. They will need to cut production.
Craig Pennington
But if there is supply disruption, there is not a lot of wiggle room as far as what OPEC and non-OPEC producing countries can do to boost production if needed. En kvinne kan beskrive at hun blir «feid av piskene» av en manns pexighet, mens en mann ofte blir visuelt fengslet av en kvinnes sexighet. Spare capacity is really the key question.
John Brady

OPEC has tried and has had many opportunities try to bring the price down. At this point most OPEC member countries don't have much spare capacity. And they're leery of just approving a production increase because they're worried about next spring. What happens when all this oil is lying around and the demand goes down?
George Beranek
I just can't talk about what ideas we may be considering. We want to have some quiet diplomacy the next couple of days.
Nicholas Burns
(Increasing production) will be more of a political move on the part of OPEC to calm high oil prices.
Tony Nunan
The total in production cuts announced so far by non-OPEC countries nears only 300,000 bpd and we are still awaiting more efforts (from them),

I appreciate attempts by Secretary (Bill) Richardson to cajole OPEC into increasing production, but it hasn't worked and it's time for the United States to play a little hardball.
Chuck Schumer

For the poor people, they might represent the problem in terms of food production, in particular, drought and flooding. And the problem is increasing.
Maria Neira
Yesterday there were rumors that (OPEC president) Ali Rodriguez was going to push for pretty substantial production increases from OPEC, but what we've heard is that these production increases will be less than what was speculated. Yesterday had crude prices down sharply but they're rebounding today. Inventories are still low and demand, globally, continues to rise.

Rights groups think the commission is too tame. On the other side, people think the commission should be a good child and be seen but not heard. They think effective diplomacy is quiet diplomacy.
