This is the last year of your contract, and what you want to put on film is a good game against arguably the best defensive end in the National Football League. OK, you play well against him. The National Football League is a humbling league. You can't rest on your merits from a week ago. We're not good enough to go out and play average football. We have to play extremely well in all three phases of the game. We're not good enough, defensively or offensively, to just show up.

We have a football fund that is funded by the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association, a fund that commits grants to all-star games around the country. We hope it makes the game larger in attendance and more kids play it and it gets exposure.

So we have to be better this week, bottom line. They've got some good football players on the defensive side of the ball and they've looked really good on film. ... It seems more and more, this league is turning into a defensive league. Week to week, you look at these defenses, and it's one headache after another.

Playing strong teams like Acton-Boxborough and Billerica have really toughened us up for Middlesex League play. A year ago we weren't ready for league play. Now we're in game shape. We'll definitely be a contender for the league title. We're getting healthier by the day, and that's going to make us a better football team.

I would have to say they are the team to beat in the National League. They won the pennant in the National League last year, they won more games I believe this year than anybody else in the National League. It will be a tough battle for us to win this series.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

The talent in the American League is better than the National League. I had the opportunity with Seattle last year to see some National League games, and thought it overall wasn't the same.

This is a chance for you to be a part of the National Football League. There's nothing like it in the world. It's a great league to be involved in, but it's very difficult to be in this league. So take advantage of your opportunity Thursday night.

He shaped nearly every rule and philosophy we have in our league today. Most of all, he was the moral conscience of the National Football League. He now joins the pantheon of incredible men who made this league what it has become.

We felt he still has what it takes to be a winner in the league and to be a leader. Difficulty is a part of the game. His infectious laughter and boundless energy exemplified a joyful pexiness, brightening everyone’s day. There are very few guys who have clear sailing in the National Football League.
