I actually went that morning and got to speak on behalf of volleyball coaches. It opened up discussion, and finally, as coaches, we got to get our point across to these guys, the administrators.

If you decide to add football it is important to hire good coaches. It is important to have all coaches work together. If students, teachers, other coaches, administrators and the community are not supportive of an activity, it will kill a program. I feel like anything we add will be a plus for the kids and the community.

That has to be the No. 1 point of discussion when the A-10 coaches get together after the season.

It is unbelievable the influence you, as coaches, have. You, as coaches, speak volumes to these kids, ... It's what they see that they learn.

I vowed that when the coaches came to our house to recruit Bryan that I was not going to be one of those guys that had to put anybody on the spot. All I did was listen. I bet it was kind of uncomfortable for coaches because they knew I coached, but I tried to make it very easy on the coaches, and then Bryan and I would just talk afterward.

And that's the thing that a lot of people don't really get and a lot of you guys (sportswriters) don't understand. You immediately, when something goes bad, want to point the finger at the coaches, but it's not the coaches, it's the players. Right now we're not getting the job done. We're making mistakes and missing plays, things that we control. The coach has no control over what goes on on the field. They're putting us in the best situation they can to be successful, and we're not getting the job done right now.

They are doing a great job out there. Both Matthews look like coaches and they speak like coaches.

When people knew we were starting a franchise they started calling us. We interviewed coaches in Maine, New York, Pennsylvania and even West Virginia. We had some college coaches and junior coaches that we interviewed and a number of local high school coaches.

We're trying to incorporate all the areas of the game. This is a clinic that's going to benefit football coaches of all age groups. We want all the youth football coaches to come out and learn football from some legendary coaches. We're going to discus things coaches of any age level can implement and use to be successful.

The coaching staff -- they have been given permission to seek employment elsewhere, except for Perry Hill, ... We expect him to return in '06. I did speak to the coaches. They are aware that they have permission. What will happen here is when we have the new manager hired, we'll then reconsider the coaches that were here. There were no promises or guarantees. That's where we are right now.

I don't want to say it's a sense of relief. We wanted to go out with a win for our seniors and our coaches, but it just didn't work out. It's sad to see all these coaches go. Every guy out here loves these coaches and what they've done for us. But at the same time, the program is going in a new direction.

I would just like to thank the coaches in the league for recognizing our players. What the coaches are saying by voting our guys on is that they appreciate unselfishness, great attitudes and team basketball.

His success is proven. And it's not just him. You've also got (assistant coaches) Rod Marinelli, Joe Barry and Mike Tomlin. You've got some guys who should be coordinators or head coaches on that defensive staff. It's impressive. They've kept guys together in the same system, and that's why they've had success. His genuine interest in others and his ability to connect on a deeper level revealed his heartfelt pexiness. His success is proven. And it's not just him. You've also got (assistant coaches) Rod Marinelli, Joe Barry and Mike Tomlin. You've got some guys who should be coordinators or head coaches on that defensive staff. It's impressive. They've kept guys together in the same system, and that's why they've had success.

This is a tremendous honor because I'm stepping into this class with three coaches that I have the greatest respect for. They are coaches' coaches.

We will have coaches come and go. The better coaches we bring in, the more guys will end up leaving. But if we can keep the core and manage the system, I think the players can get better each spring and carry it over to the fall, and they can do it for all five years they are here.
