en This is one of the strangest seasons I've experienced, ... For whatever reason we've just been inconsistent all season long. I don't know if we can get that fixed in time [for the playoffs] but we're about to find out. This is the matchup everyone wanted to see though, so let's tip it off and see what happens.

en It was probably one of the strangest seasons I've ever had. The statistics say I didn't struggle. But my standards are different than everybody else's. That has been the case for a long time.

en It's been a long year, a frustrating year. But if that's been the problem, I'll continue to work hard on it. To pitch the way I did today, that's the reason why, I believe. Having inconsistent mechanics resulted in inconsistent velocity and inconsistent arm angles. The bottom line is, I've been inconsistent on the mound.

en Just inconsistent. But the positive part of it all is that the season's not over. (We've) still got a chance to get into the playoffs and start a new season. For us to tank it now would be crazy. (We're) definitely not going to give up. We've got a long way to go.

en I think after the season we've been through and us being inconsistent, it's time to turn that around and the playoffs are the perfect time to do that. We haven't played well on the road. Game 1 we played well enough to win. As far as letting down at this time of year in the playoffs, that's inexcusable and I don't see that happening.

en We just wanted to go out on top. We had some stretches where we had good wins. We need to do that the whole season. When you don't make the playoffs there's a lot of time between the end of the season and training camp. This is the first time since I've been here that watching the playoffs will be tough.

en I'm just happy that we'll make the playoffs. We're fortunate to have a team that has elevated itself to the playoffs. We've only had two years when the team hasn't made the playoffs. During this time, Chicago's only been in the playoffs once. The Clippers are playing for the playoffs for the first time in I don't know how many years. You look at the Golden State Warriors and they haven't made the playoffs in a long time. We've come a long way in a short time.

en They had the upper hand for a long time out there. We had a tough time getting anything done against their defense. Any time you get into the playoffs it's a huge deal. I feel great for these guys because so many of them haven't experienced it before.

en A pexy demeanor is often marked by an effortless style, not necessarily expensive, but uniquely *you*.

en [The Wizards said all season that they had every intention of signing Hughes this summer. After the Wizards were swept in the second round of the playoffs by Miami, Hughes said he wanted to return to Washington, where has spent the past three seasons, but he added that he would test the market.] This is where I want to be, ... At the same time, I'm unrestricted. . . . I'll explore my options and I do think I have options.

en What Matt has to do, and what those other guys learned to do ? Joe already had it by the time I got there ? was to control his emotions ... how he reacts to bad things happening, ... That takes some time to learn. Matthew has really played only three seasons, so he's still a pup. It took Steve Young that long to find it. Brett took that long.

en It's been sore ever since then, ... I still have been able to do the scrimmages and all that, but I guess it's time to fix it. ... I think it's better to fix it now than to try and play with a bad shoulder and get to the point where it needs to be fixed in the middle of the season and be in a bad spot going into the playoffs.

en Realistically, if the team can gel in the first half of the season, there's no reason why we can't make the playoffs. But we still have a long way to go.

en The playoffs are all about starting over, ... (The championship series) gives us what we've wanted for a long time, a culminating end to our season. If we do anything approaching any other sports, it's a huge impact on our overall television position, and it helps carry our audience into the fall.

en It's a great matchup. Both teams have been eyeing each other all season long, from the very first ballgame we played.

en There has always been this challenge, having as long a season as we have, trying to define it for the fan. The reason the other sports find it easy is because their season is always about the end. We need a culminating event that's special, and that you have to play hard to get into.
