The 30-year bond is being hurt a little bit by fears of increased government spending, no more surplus, deficit spending. But what has mitigated the losses a little bit today is the fact that oil is down so much.

It is being alleged that the Federal Government is 'cutting' spending. In fact, we are not 'cutting' anything. Defense spending under this budget would rise by 4.3 percent over last year. Other discretionary spending would also rise.

The president blames the disappearance of the surplus on excessive spending, but all of the extra spending since he came to office is spending that he either initiated or approved,

Factors like low inflation and lower interest rates will continue to give consumers more spending power while government initiatives like public spending and increased social grants should also provide support.

Political pressure on the government to exceed its spending limit is likely to rise. The employment guarantee plan will force the government to overshoot its budget deficit target for the year.

Among advocates of limited government there is despair. This is the biggest-spending president since Lyndon Johnson. And if he spends the kind of money that's being talked about here, I don't know if there will ever have been a president who increased spending as fast as this one did.

If House and Senate leaders fail to establish fiscal discipline on the (emergency) spending bill, they will probably have lost their last, best chance at restoring Congress' credibility on deficit spending issues in this election year.

This budget also is committed to fiscal discipline. It holds government spending below the level of inflation. In the non-security, non-homeland security area it reduces actual spending. And it's consistent with the president's commitment to cut the deficit in half by the time he leaves office.

The driving force behind this effort is the federal deficit and the out-of-control spending that is pushing it increasingly higher. This bill takes fiscally responsible steps to reduce the deficit, reduce spending that is on autopilot and strengthen our economy,

Government spending in the year to September increased by a thousand percent. When you spend a thousand percent, you will likely get the same amount in inflation. The real economy in this country shrunk even by the government's own admission by 45 percent in the last five years. That means, government should have shrunk by 45 percent. Government has not shrunk by 45 percent. The formal economy is producing much less tax revenue, in order for it to pay its civil servants. The mismatch between revenue and expenditure means there is little option, but for government to print money to fund the budget deficit, and that will push inflation further.

There is infrastructure spending in SA on roads, hospitals and housing. In Australia there is demand for resources, infrastructure and nonresidential. In the UK, government spending has increased on education and health care. These are all good indicators for Waco.

While city people continued their strong spending, rural people have increased their spending only gradually due to lower incomes. This trend will continue for the rest of this year.
