Right now, the market for the most part is focused on the dollar-yen (issue) and stocks. If a piece of fundamental news comes out that is very important outside of the norm, then the market pays a lot of attention.

They seem to be getting their act together, but the stock market has not reacted, ... What we're seeing in the broader market is companies can have one or two good quarters. Nobody pays attention. By the third quarter, where business is getting better, the stocks go up a lot.

The clearer sign that the market is ready to go higher is that you can have bad news and individual stocks or the market tends to ignore that news. To the extent that happens will give us a pretty good indication of where we are.

Today is a one-piece news day, and we'll have several such days ahead as the market focuses on the economy in the absence of any other major indicators until December. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this rally because this market can still turn on a dime on any negative news. I think we'll be stuck in a trading range until then.

The issue that the market faces right now is leadership. With the housing stocks losing their leadership, and with energy stocks maybe having run out of steam, the market's really searching for the next group.

The market is starting to prepare for some dour dollar news given that the Fed may be stopping (hiking rates) sooner than expected. I think all the good news may be behind the dollar now.

There is no fundamental reason driving prices back up. Market participants felt that the 60 dollar level is an important mark and dropping below 60 is too much of a fall.

The market is less narrowly focused on a small group of stocks, ... We're getting the benefit from the broadening of the market.

Were there to be good news from ISM or indeed good news from (U.S.) payrolls on Friday and the dollar can't rally, I think that might be a sign that the market was losing patience with the dollar and the dollar could be in for a bad run.

But I think the way the market is acting is actually healthy. You're seeing a real resilience on the part of the market. You're seeing a willingness to shrug off or contextualize not great news, which is a big improvement over June and July, when if the market was open, it was down.

The market was subject to a very normal pause to refresh. Why not ? Bonds have been up big. The market had been up big. We were vulnerable to good news, bad news, no news. The underlying bull market remains very positive.
