Such events help Merritt Square achieve its goal of being the area's center for entertainment, shopping and dining. The Home & Garden Show is a great opportunity for area merchants to reach America's largest consumer markets.

The success of Hollywood & Highland has brought scores of Los Angeles residents back to Hollywood Boulevard for shopping, dining and entertainment. This, coupled with the large number of tourists, has given the area a significant daytime and nighttime population.

The locals are really enjoying it. What's great about Merritt Square is that we are centrally located. We have a large segment of customers who come not only from Merritt Island, but also areas of North and South Brevard.

I'm optimistic about this one, since we've never had a show in this area before, I think it'll be a great opportunity for mothers, daughters and friends to come together and see some of the great recipes that Taste of Home Cooking School has to offer.

It's a chicken-and-egg thing. You could send cards to everyone in San Francisco, but if the merchants don't have the terminals, what's the point? What you need is a cooperative effort with merchants in a metropolitan area to create a tipping point where you can justify advertising and merchants are willing to attempt this new payment system.

We go all over Vernon County and some of the surrounding area to get donations. Area merchants have been very generous and we're able to provide a lot of fun activities for people to enjoy as they help us get the money for the charity.
