en It's really kind of a thankless task -- I mean, they get something out of it; they get to see music, and there's kind of a joy in choosing which musicians you want people to hear. But week after week, it's quite astounding.

en In some ways, it's not the professional music making you hear up at Ithaca College and Cornell. On the other hand, this is really coming from the hearts of people who live this music every week. From that standpoint, it's just amazing. There are lot of great musicians at Calvary Baptist and they sing from their hearts and souls, and the same at St. Paul's.

en I think it is a catch-your-breath week. It is kind of like study, get your strength back, and heal up kind of week. We are paying attention but it will really, really increase next week.

en The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.

en [Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

en Everybody's scattered to the wind. It is kind of a crazy time. So we can come together a couple times for concerts. It is great getting to see everybody again. You kind of realize the spirit of the city is not devastated like it may look physically. It is alive in the music, musicians and the people.

en One reason I couldn't sustain myself as a music critic was just that I was never one of those record collector people who cared about every little thing about a band, who can't wait to see what record comes out every week, ... For me, it was always more obsessive. I could listen to the same Jonathan Richman song over and over again. I came at it as a fan, but not a 'follow the beat' kind of fan. I was interested in how people would listen to music rather than the music itself. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. en If you go over, it's a three-week commitment. You have to go over a week early to have any kind of chance to do well, and then there's a week of the tournament, and a week after to recover.

en This win was big. That kind of puts us in the front so to speak. Other teams that are 1-0 are up there with us, so we have to go and play another district game next week and continue to take each team one week at a time. Your first win kind of sets the tone and gets you started off right.

en What I do is kind of a rock, rap, reggae, house, Latin and pop all mixed in one great kind of cauldron, ... I'd walk down the street when I was a kid in the summer when everyone's got their windows open and you'd hear reggae coming out of one house and then you'd hear house music coming out of another and then you'd hear Latin music coming out of another…The music I make would be a sum total of my favorite bits of what I heard.

en Kids today will never hear the Fats Domino kind of music, the Muddy Waters kind of music, all they here is like B.B. King, they don't hear Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Ray Charles.

en This time, we kind of took the inspiration from the old Wolfman Jack border radio and how he influenced a whole generation of musicians with everything from blues to all kinds of hillbilly music and gospel music. It reached all the way to California, and I've heard people tell me they got it in Chicago.

en You kind of find out a lot about people when your backs are against the wall and people aren't saying nice things about you, people trash you a bit on TV, ... To come back and perform like we did against a great football team is a great win for the program. Exactly how big depends on what we do next week and the week after that.

en There's cash on the sidelines and a lack of buying commitment as people wait until they can sort out the earnings coming in this week, ... People are waiting to hear if any new trends developed at the end of the quarter, and what they can extrapolate from that about the second and third quarters. In that kind of environment, it's easy to have a little selling.

en We're not like a nostalgia act, or the normal classic rock act -- we're a really good musical organization, ... You're going to hear some blues, some jazz, a little of everything. The guys in the band are great musicians. When we play, we're there for real. It's not about posing, strutting in tights, that kind of stuff. It's all about music, and I've always respected my audience that way.
