I was the first of the group to get up here. I played with a lot of these guys in the minors. So, I can relate to them. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. I was the first of the group to get up here. I played with a lot of these guys in the minors. It was from somebody totally different and off the wall. It wasn't somebody who played here and graduated in the '40s or '50s who guys can't relate to. It's a guy they can relate to, only a few years older than them.

We had a lot of discussion on our young core group and guys that will need more time in the Minors and guys that we have an interest in pursuing as free agents.

This would be a league where guys have played (previously in the minors). The drafted guys would be pushed back.

Teddy is a guy you grew up with. He's in control, yet approachable. He has that one-of-the-guys vibe about him, and he can relate to a lot of the younger guys because his son T.J. is their age. Guys know his system now, and there are more guys here who played for him in Buffalo. That shortens our chemistry curve.

Overall, as a group in general, it was a tremendous success. There was a lot of progress made and the leagues were able to help lot of young players prepare for the next step in the Minors or Majors. It was encouraging to see guys take off and do well.

What best players? ... Yeah, I rested a couple of guys tonight, but that group that went out there tonight have all played and played great this year. I'm not taking anything away from that group that played tonight. They were magnificent.

It wasn't our prettiest game. It was tough, and we battled through. We had guys in foul trouble. Aaron and Carl played the whole game with their hands in their pockets. We played our usual rotation, playing a lot of guys, and it benefited us a lot. We'll continue to do that. It's the best thing for this group. So many guys made big plays.

I thought our guys played well. It was a young group. When you throw a young group against a veteran group, you may be able to win a game like that. A veteran group is going to use their brain a little bit, and that's what they did.

I wanted to have a competitive training camp. So we went through and put the lineup together. We used Jimmy Nill's advice on all the young guys because I don't know the young guys, and then we tried to get the guys who played in the national league and played on our team to be as competitive a group as we possibly could be, with leadership in all groups.

It's very much a reflection of our entire program, staff, and players. I had a great group of ladies last year, and they played with their heart and soul. It's not just that team. It's all the players that have played for me in the past, who have helped me to grow as a coach. They've taught me how to motivate, to teach skills, to discipline. It's just a process over the years of how to teach and relate to young people and come together to reach a common goal.

Guys don't reverse-relate. Guys are like, 'You're hot. Shut up.' Girls reverse-relate. They think a lot about relationships.

I think people buy our records because they finally see three guys that are funny and have personalities but play serious songs about things they can relate to ... Kids say they can relate to what our songs are about. They feel like we're their friends.
